The World's End a.k.a Sometimes Reunions Can Go Bad

The World's End - Movie Review

The Movie
Let me just start this off by saying that I love Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.  If you haven't watched these two movies, please do yourself a favor and watch them because they are hilarious.

The Likes
This film is the third film in their Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy. Honestly, this isn't a trilogy in the normal sense of the term but if you have watched Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz you will see little easter eggs and homages to the other two films.  The writing in this film is very good, the jokes are on point, and despite all of the comedy the film does a very good job of telling a story that actually makes you think about life. The main thing that I like about this film is the chemistry between the main actors in the film. It really feels like they have been friends that are just seeing each other for the first time in years. Another thing that I liked about this movie is the amount of WTF moments in the film.  Some of them they show in the trailer but when it happens on screen and the circumstances that lead up to it you can't help but say WTF.  The movie also has some cameos in it and they are very good cameos.  One cameo in particular kind of made me a little upset and this is for my fellow Game of Thrones fans.  Walder Frey shows up in this movie and I really wanted Simon Pegg or Nick Frost to f--k him up (yes I'm still pissed about the Red Wedding). In all seriousness he does an awesome job as well and he's pretty funny in the scenes that he is in.

The Dislikes
My main dislike with this film is basically the pacing.  It starts kind of slow and even though there are a couple of laughs it feels a little uneven.  If you have seen the movie trailer then you know about the sci-fi element to this movie.  The guys when they first run into this problem that they have discovered in their hometown they have a serious issue fighting them off, but in the majority of the scenes afterwards they are doing one punch KOs, which felt a little off to me.

The Verdict
Even with the pacing and balance issues I have to give this a Full Price.  If you love their work then you know what to expect.  If you have not seen Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead you can still have an awesome time and you will laugh pretty hard.  Although if you do like to bar hop you may find your next bar crawl to be extremely boring compared to this.
