Comic Pick Ups

What's up peeps. It's been awhile since I have talked about comics in any meaningful way. Don't worry I still have my collection in tact and going strong. I just thought I would take a little time to talk about three comics that piqued my interest today in the comic book store.

Rat Queens
This one was recommended by my good buddy Stephanie. She knows I like fantasy type fiction from time to time and suggested I take a look at this quirky little title. I picked up the graphic novel and I have to say I like this book. Its from Image comics Shadowline and volume 1 collects issues 1- 5, titled Sass and Sorcery it has a lot of both in the book. The story follows Betty, Dee, Violet, and Hannah and their adventures busting heads, getting high, drunk, and having a generally awesome time. As you may have guessed this comic isn't for the little ones as their is a lot of language and violence. Most of which is funny as it plays a lot like a dark comedy RPG (that's Role Playing Game for those that don't know). I would go into detail but that would spoil it, so I will just say this if you live near a comic bookstore and you are in to the whole fantasy, dark comedy, RPG thing give it a read. I had to add this to my pick up list.

Rocket Raccoon
Next up is my favorite Guardian of the Galaxy. He has his own book written and drawn by Skottie Young, one of my favorite artists. The first book follows Rocket and gives you a little idea as to what he does with his downtime and when he is away from the rest of the Guardians. The team does make a cameo in the book which I thought was handled beautifully as it set up some pretty good comedic scenes. I am looking forward to seeing where they take this one, it's a pretty fun read.

Original Sin: Thor & Loki - The Tenth Realm
Marvel is right smack dab in the middle of their Original Sin crossover and this is one of the tie-ins that I have been waiting for. If you haven't been keeping up with the event here's the short version. Someone has killed the Watcher and stolen his eyes. The Watcher has seen everything in the Marvel U, a lot of those things he never spoke about. One such secret is about the Tenth Realm and its connection to Thor and Loki and the sister they never knew they had. It's a five issue limited series and is set to explain one of the mysteries from the end of Age of Ultron in which we saw Angela come to the Marvel U. In this first issue I only have one real problem and that is I feel that they are to many artists in the book. Its a little jarring because it doesn't feel uniform, other than that I am interested in seeing how this tie-in develops. I will save my review of Original Sin for when it is complete.

Well I hoped you enjoyed my little comic pick ups. I may just start reviewing an arc at a time or a graphic novel. If you have any suggestions or comics you would like me to read and review just let me know. I have no problem letting you know my thoughts.  Finally, episode 2 of Jay and Tee's Fresh Take will be up on Saturday. I look forward to seeing you then.
