First Impressions - Dust An Elysian Tail

Available on PS4, XBox 360, & PC

The Game
This was one of my favorite games from the Summer of Arcade on the 360 back in 2012. Of course this was before I started my blog and since it has since been released on PSN I decided I would do my first impressions on the game. The game tells the story of Dust a warrior with amnesia trying to figure out who or what he is, it should also be noted that this game consists of furries. I personally don't have a problem with it as the world is a fantasy world. He is aided in his journey by the talking sword Ahrah and Fidget his flying companion. Think of Fidget as a way better sidekick than Navi. She tends to break the fourth wall a lot but I find her to be funny most of the time. Together this trio will help Dust on his journey of self discovery all the while helping out characters along the way.

The Combat
The combat in the game is along the lines of the MetroidVania style of game play. Personally, it reminds me of the old school beat 'em ups i.e. Final Fight, Streets of Rage etc. Dust has a plethora of moves that he can learn over the course of the game as well as upgrades to equipment. It is very important to upgrade your equipment as the game has a steady increase in difficulty.  There is some good variety with the enemies but some people may think that the game is repetitive. I don't think so, personally, as the game does a good job of adding a variety of skills to the mix in order to switch things up.

The Graphics
I love the way this game looks. If you don't know this game was created by one person, Dean Dodrill. It took him a while to get it done but I have to say that the character design and environments look great. The world feels inhabited and not hollow, to me that is a big plus in my book. Before I forget the music for the game is pretty good as well I own the soundtrack from Hyperduck Soundworks. I bought it from Bandcamp.com back in 2012 and I listen to it often.  Check out the first 30 minutes of gameplay from YouTube channel.
