TV Review - Castlevania Season 1

Synopsis (From IMDB):  A vampire hunter fights to save a besieged city from an army of otherworldly creatures controlled by Dracula.

Can't lie that was a fun little season. It's not without its faults but the potential is there for something great. Now while this is animated it is NOT for children. If you remember the old Spawn animated series on HBO, then you kind of understand what they were going for. This particular story revolves around Trevor Belmont which in all honesty isn't bad and is joined in the season by Sypha and Alucard. The voice acting is pretty good, some of the characters have accents and maintain them throughout the season and it works to make the story feel like it is in an Eastern European village in the 15th Century. There is some humor in the season most of it coming from Trevor as a lot of the stuff he does in the beginning episodes is kind of douchey, to say the least. The action is very fluid and can be clearly seen, I liked the animation especially during fights and action sequences. I also liked the overall look and tone. While the tone was dark I found that it didn't go overboard and was just right with regards to the story. There is gore but not ridiculous amounts of it, it's just enough to let you know that the world is dangerous in this story.

There wasn't much that I didn't like but I think one of the main things is the length. Season one is only four episodes. Keep in mind that Season 2 has been greenlit and that season will be 8 episodes so that is a good thing but for the moment this season just feels short. While we do get to see some enemies from the games, I feel like some were left out. I don't know, maybe they will show up in Season 2 but for now, there are only a few monsters from the game that are in this season. That is about all I can think of for dislikes, I am sure there are others but I just can't think of anything else at the moment.

For Parents
This is rated TV-MA, and it has earned it. This is NOT for children, I repeat THIS IS NOT FOR CHILDREN. There is violence, gore, and profanity throughout each of the episodes. Each episode is 23 minutes, so it isn't too bad. Easily bingable, I just advise against watching it with young children.

Final Thoughts
I enjoyed the season. I wish it were a little bit longer, that way we could have gotten more story and may meet a few more characters. Since it is on Netflix I gave this one a 4 our of 5 stars. I am looking forward to Season 2 and what they do next. Have you seen Castlevania the series on Netflix? Let me know what you thought about it in the comments. As always thanks for reading.
