Synopsis (from IMDB): When the Kingsman Headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, Merlin and Eggsy travel to the United States and the allied spy organization Statesman. In a new adventure that tests their agent's wits and strengths to the limit, these two elite organizations band together to defeat a ruthless common enemy, in order to save the world, something that's becoming a bit of a habit for Eggsy.
If you watched the first Kingsman movie then you have a good idea of what to expect with this film. Just like the first film this movie gets its inspiration from the more ridiculous spy thrillers. It has action, comedy, car chases, a few truly jacked moments for added shock value, and lots of alcohol. One of my favorite things about this movie is the way that it is shot. The action scenes especially, are done in a way where you can see what's going on. One of the standout action sequences in the first film was the church fight and they do a really good job in this film of matching that scene in my opinion. As far as the cast is concerned I think that they did a really good job. The movie is meant to be ridiculous but I think the writers did a good job of making the stakes high enough where you could feel some of the tension. The cast is good in the movie and unlike the first film, I found that the accents were not that bad this time around. With the exception of a couple of people, I thought this cast did a very good job.
The main problem that I had with the movie was the villain. Don't get me wrong I am a fan of Julianne Moore but in this film, I just didn't buy her as an eccentric, megalomaniac drug dealer. She did have a number of dark comedic scenes in the movie but it felt like they were playing her for laughs much like they did with Sam Jackson in the first movie. I hope you aren't a huge fan of Channing Tatum because he is hardly in this movie which is kind of a letdown. They do give him one quick action scene but I thought he would have had more to do with this one. Also, the ending was one of those hella convenient endings that tend to annoy people. Lastly, I thought that there were a couple of scenes that could have been cut. The movie doesn't feel long and there isn't a real pacing issue it just felt that a couple of scenes could have been cut and it would have made for a tighter story.
This movie is Rated R. There is a lot of action and a few scenes of gore in the film. Also, there is a controversial scene that involves a sex act that seems to have some people up in arms. Let me just say this, this movie isn't for children. If you allow your children to watch this then that is on you. This movie is Rated R for a reason so adults should be able to handle the scenes in this movie. In the wise words of my cousins, "THIS MOVIE FOR GROWN FOLKS!!!" The movie clocks in right at two and a half hours and is paced well for the most part.
I loved this movie. I give it a MATINEE. It's one of those movies that's a good little time waster and if you are a fan of action films I don't think that you'll be disappointed. Have you seen the movie? What did you think? Let's talk about it in the comments section and as always thanks for reading.
