The Wolverine a.K.a Fun things to do in Japan if you're Logan

*Disclaimer: Below is a short review of the 20th Century Fox movie entitled The Wolverine.  Their may be a spoiler or two in the following but I will try to keep from ruining the plot for you.  Now you have been warned. Please read at your own discretion.*

The Movie

The Likes
I have to say that I enjoyed this movie a lot.  It is loosely based on the Chris Claremont/Frank Miller story from the 80's.  In the story Wolverine goes to Japan and does what he does best. (I would go into it but that is a discussion for another day) The movie starts off in a Japanese POW camp right as the Atomic Bomb is being dropped on Nagasaki.  Logan saves the life of Yoshida and cue opening credits.  The movie actually deals with the fallout of Logan killing Jean Grey in X-Men 3 and Famke Jansen reprising her role as Jean from those movies.  This movie is way more character driven which isn't a bad thing.  The action is pretty good as well, with a couple of the fights and situations in the movie comin…

Geeks of the fairer sex and why my fellow male nerds/geeks need to stop trippin

I have  been becoming concerned as of late with harrowing tales within a part of society that I am proud to be a part of;  upon reading the title of today's entry it should be very clear as to what I wish to share my opinion about.  First of all let me just say this to all of the geek/nerd women out there.  I love you.  Really I do, you are awesome and I am glad that you exist.  I'm glad when I see you in the comic book store, I'm glad when I see you in GameStop, I'm glad when I play against you online (I'm talking videogames people), I'm glad when I see you cosplaying it up at different cons, and I'm glad when I see you in the sci-fi/fantasy aisle in Books-A-Million or Barnes & Noble.

Now fellas lets be honest here, most of us are shy and introverted, some of us get nervous easily and hey there's nothing wrong with that. Its also understandable that most are not really used to women having an interest in anything that we do and likewise have anythi…

Dungeons & Dragons Chronicles of Mystara Part 2

Tower of Doom

The Game
This is game is actually the first game in Chronicles of Mystara pack that you get when you download the game.  It originally came out in 1993 in arcades.  There are 4 players to choose from in this game: Fighter, Dwarf, Cleric, and Elf. The Fighter and Dwarf are your powerhouses with the Cleric and Elf being good with magic.  The game is a little shorter than Shadow Over Mystara, one playthrough should take about 50 - 55 minutes. Which is pretty standard for a arcade beat'em up.  The game also has multiple paths that you can pick at different points in the game. The game is a little on the difficult side but is still fun especially if you are playing multiplayer.  Here in lies a little problem on the 360 (which is the version that I played) the multiplayer only works online or local co-op.  In other words you cannot mix the two which is a problem that is supposed to be patched soon.

I have linked a video that shows a boss battle for both games.  The first is w…

Dungeons and Dragons - Chronicles of Mystara

Chronicles of Mystara is a downloadable game that is available on PS3, XBox 360, Steam, and coming in August on WiiU.  It consists of the arcade versions of Tower of Doom and Shadow Over Mystara both games released in the 90's.  Tower of Doom came out in 1993 with Shadow Over Mystara coming out in 1996.  This review covers Shadow Over Mystara.

Shadow Over Mystara

The Game

This game is a straight port of the arcade from the 90's.  It's an action beat'em up in the same vein as Streets of Rage.  In the game you have 6 character classes to choose from (the Dwarf, Fighter, Elf, Magic User, Cleric, and Thief).  Each class has their different strengths and weaknesses and it really depends on what you are comfortable with gameplay wise.  Me personally I love getting up close and personal so I tend to use the Fighter or the Dwarf.  As there particular stats make them better for being on the frontlines in the middle of the action.  The Elf and the Thief are your speedsters with the…

From a concerned Gamer

Normally this blog will have either video walkthroughs or reviews of games that I am currently playing, but I wanted to take a little time today to talk about something that I find frustrating within the game industry.  Its the need for instant gratification and rampant negativity that I am seeing become the norm across gaming websites and publications.  First I just want to say that I am a gamer.  I have been gaming since 1990, I own 5 consoles and 2 handheld gaming consoles.  I am by no means biased but I do like to defend my hobby when it needs to be defended. Saying that I feel that it has become necessary to speak about this.

First, to me it doesn't matter what type of gamer you are.  There are many different types of genres and a lot of people like different gaming experiences.  Just because a game has an M rating does not make you any better than the person that bought something  else.  I am getting annoyed with people trying to act as if they are better gamers just because…

For those of you who do not read comics but love to talk about movies based on comics

I just wanted to take a little time today to speak about something that I have found to be interesting/annoying.  There is no doubt that superhero movies are big business for Hollywood and many people have been drawn to the movies that have been created in the past few years.  I won't lie a lot of those movies have been very good and most have been respectful of the character and its comic book counterpart in recent years.  Which brings me to my annoyance, I understand that changes have to be made when adapting any fiction to the screen especially when it is live action.  However, that should not do anything to how the character is or how their specific power sets are.  For example, I keep hearing people say that Wolverine is immortal.  People Wolverine is not immortal, his healing factor does indeed retard the aging process on him just like Sabretooth, Captain America, and X-23 but that does not make him immortal. Wolverine can be killed.  Is it hard to kill him? Of course it is,…
