One Piece - Strong World Review
Disclaimer: I have to say that I have seen all of the One Piece Movies as well as the OVA's. I truly hope that Funimation will bring the rest of the movies especially Movie Z. Now that I got that out of the way. Enjoy.
This is the 10th One Piece movie and was actually written by Eiichiro Oda (he's the author of the manga for those that don't know). The movie starts out with Luffy running from and fighting large monsters on a mysterious island. Right from the opening the animation is very good and looks a lot like the anime. Its also important to note that this movie is the first movie with Brook in it, he is the character that looks like a skeleton with an afro. As far as the movie is concerned the first part of the movie plays out like a flash back mixed with the crew meeting back up with each other. Its here where a lot of the comedy plays out as the crew is searching from island to island to try and get Nami back. Yes Nami gets kidnapped by the movie's main villain, a pirate from Gol D. Rogers era. His name is Shiki the Gold Lion and he has issues to say the least. He kidnaps Nami to be his navigator as his navigator's are not as skilled as she is and this puts him in a direct confrontation with the Straw Hat crew. I like him in the original version but in the dub the voice actor they got for him tries to do a kind of Caribbean accent which kind of made it hard to understand sometimes. His underlings are just as eccentric as he is but I have to give them credit they have incredible dance choreography. When you watch the movie you will understand what I am talking about. The climax to this movie is pretty good as you get to see the Straw Hats go into attack mode to get Nami back. The movie is right under two hours clocking at 1 hour 55 minutes and is paced very well. It is also a standalone film and that is a good thing. It was originally released in 2009 so it is set before the Straw Hats go to the New World. So if you have seen any of the newer anime episodes then do not expect to see any of the crew's new attacks or how they look. All in all I thought it was a good movie. You will need to know a little about the One Piece world before watching it just so it will make sense. I suggest Wikipedia if you aren't familiar with the anime as it has been around for a long time.
As a fan of anime and One Piece I thought it was a good movie. There is a good amount of action in it and they do cuss at one point in the movie. Nothing to bad but if you have little children you may need to know that. I give the movie a FULL PRICE. If you have a chance give it a look.
