Random Thoughts

So as you may know by now I am a fan of Anime and many of the different genres that are contained within that part of the entertainment community. I have noticed though in the past few years that there have been a few anime that based in the realm of VRMMO (Virtual Reality Massive Mulitplayer Online) type games. You may have seen a couple of these shows. One of the more famous is Sword Art Online, one of my personal favorites actually. I have recently started watching Log Horizon, which also deals with the plight of being stuck in an VRMMO. Now the reason why I have brought both of those up is this, is Japan trying to tell us something. I mean a lot of people are talking about the Oculus Rift and virtual reality gaming being the next big thing. As a gamer I am looking forward to seeing what it is all about but now I am going to have to be more cautious. I mean the last thing I would want is to get stuck in Tetris or with my luck I'd get stuck in Lollipop Chainsaw or Madden. Now I …

First Impressions - Senran Kagura Burst

Senran Kagura Burst: Nintendo 3DS eShop
First Impressions This game is kind of hard to describe, the game takes its cues from the side scroller beat'em ups of the late 80's and early 90's. Through in an anime type flavor and you have a recipe for over the top combos and plenty of ridiculous fan service. That's right this game is not for children and your significant other is pretty much gonna hate you for playing this. That's not to say that it isn't fun but its heavy on the ecchi. If you are a fan of anime you know what that means or at least you should. To be honest though the fan service here is played up for comedy and its important that I got out of the way. Now on to the reason why you're here the gameplay. The gameplay is actually pretty decent each of the characters have different strengths, weaknesses, and fighting styles. Stages are decently varied but the enemies do get repetitive after a while. This isn't a deal breaker for me though as this g…

The Legend of Hercules a.k.a Twilight Lovers rejoice

The Legend of Hercules Review

The Movie
Now if you go by the title of this review you may think I hate this movie. The truth is I despise it, but only for what they do in the movie. I love greek mythology, and one of my favorite stories in the mythos is that of Heracles (Hercules is what the Romans came up with). If you have read or know anything about the mythos, throw it out of the window because the writers pretty much said screw you to that story. One of my main problems with this movie is that it tries to be to many things. They take visuals, fight sequences, and cinematography from 300, Gladiator, Troy, Spartacus, and yes Twilight. Shake that up with some truly awful dialogue and you have this movie in a nutshell. I mean they try to craft something that is their own but they are taking to many cues from other movies that are just plain better. This movie is rated PG-13 and therein lies another problem. A sword and sandal movie needs to be rated R and that's the truth. To many …

First Impressions

Bravely Default Demo - Nintendo 3DS; Full release on 02/07/14

First Impressions

The game is a turn-based RPG that is finally going to be released in North America next month. It looks like Square Enix is getting back to basics as the game reminds me of some of their classic RPG's from the 90's. The artwork does take a little getting used to as the characters are super deformed. It didn't bother me to much but I know for some people this may be a little much, however I personally think that the artstyle goes well with the environment as well as the overall design. The demo itself takes place in one city and is a side story to the main game. In the city you can take up to seven quests and set up an assortment of jobs (the full list of jobs will be available on release) that define your character stats and actually changes how your character looks. Please don't do what I did and forget to setup the jobs for your different characters before going in to the field. Also in the…

New things happening in 2014

Hi everybody, it's been awhile but in my defense it was the holidays. I hope you all had a nice holiday season. I just wanted to let you all that read this blog know that there are going to be a few changes this year in regards to my blog. I am going live with my youtube channel for the Gamer Cafe. Starting this coming Thursday January 9th will be my first episode. The channel will be game review centric with the occasional special focusing on upcoming games. I will still be writing my first impressions here but the full reviews will be on my channel. There will be guest spots as I personally do not own all consoles, so for multiplatform games I will try to have a guest host that can review games on those systems. If you follow me on the Gamers At Large podcast/vidcast be on the lookout for some of the regulars to show up from time to time.

Lastly, I would like to say thank you to those of you who read and enjoy my blog. I am very thankful to you and I will do my best to keep my co…
