X-Men Days of Future Past

X-Men Days of Future Past Movie Review

The Movie
Before I begin I feel like I must say this, I am a comic book geek as well as a movie geek. The X-Men are my favorite comic and my favorite team by far, that being said when I watch an X-Men film I have to watch it as a film and not as a comic book fan. I know a lot of people love the Bryan Singer X-Men films and give him an automatic pass. I do not. Looking at this movie just as a movie, I have to give credit where credit is due, its not that bad. The story itself takes its cues from the Days of Future Past storyline, however, it changes the story dramatically from the comic. So if you are a fan of that particular story this movie may make you mad. Just thought I would warn you ahead of time. The movie opens with mutants getting hunted by Sentinels in a post apocalyptic world. The opening lends itself to some pretty cool sequences. From the trailers you would think that they have to many mutants but in actuality they don't. The short…

Godzilla 2014 Review

The Movie
While I am a Godzilla fan, I am not by any means a zealot Godzilla fan. That being said, I have to say I think that this movie is FREAKIN' AWESOME!!!! They got so much right with this movie that the thought of the 1998 film should be wiped from existence after watching this film. The movie takes its cues from the original movie and that's a good thing. Basically, humans wake something up they shouldn't have and Godzilla has to come an 'Layeth the Smacketh Down' to quote The Rock. I have seen some reviews where people were upset about the set up to the monster mash and while that is a concern its really not a problem; if you have seen the original and some of the other films in the franchise. The movie itself deals with a couple of themes, one being man trying to control nature. Let's just say its a bad idea. The other theme is of family and I have to say it was okay and fit the film. I do have to say the human element of this movie did not make…

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Review

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Review

The Movie
So I wasn't a big fan of the first movie for various reasons. My expectations for this movie were not as high for that very reason. As a comic book fan I am aware of Spidey but my favorite out of Marvel is and always will be the X-Men, that being said I have a fondness for ol Peter Parker because he always seemed to be kinda relatable as a hero. This movie has a lot of things going on in it and sometimes the plot feels all over the place. Just as in the first movie Peter is still trying to find out clues about why his parents left him at a young age with Uncle Ben and Aunt May. That's one plot thread. Plot 2 is his relationship with Gwen Stacy and the promise he made her dad at the end of the first movie. Plot 3 Max Dillion, Electro, and his fanactical, creepy stalking of anyone who says his name and seems to remember him. Plot 4 Harry Osborn who is dying of a hereditary disease and is a friend from Peter's past. Plot 5 the Rhino, wh…

RWBY Volume 1 Review

RWBY Volume 1 Blu Ray Review

Story Synopsis
A few months ago I did a post about my favorite web series that were on YouTube. One of those shows were RWBY from Rooster Teeth. The story follows students at a school training to be hunters of the supernatural. The best way to describe it would be Harry Potter meets Bleach (the anime). The story's action sequences are influenced by anime. The creator/director is Monty Oum and he is known for the Dead Fantasy series as well as Haloid (check those out when you have a chance). Volume 1 chronicles the characters first semester at Beacon Academy. The story has equal parts action, comedy and drama and I was never bored watching the film.

The animation on the series is fluid and really compliments the action when it ramps up. I thought the character designs were great and detailed well. I have to admit I am a bit biased as I am a fan of art and anime and enjoy different styles of each.

On YouTube every episode was of varying len…

The Game
Wow. I have to admit I have been interested in this game for a while. Being a fan of the RPG genre, especially turn-based, I have been waiting for something like this game. I have watched the making of videos and gameplay trailers on YouTube. So my expectation level for this game has been high. After playing the first few hours of this game, I have to say I am very impressed. The artstyle, music, and combat system are all very good and well done.

If you have seen any of the videos for this game, it looks like a watercolor painting. It kind of reminds me of the old Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe or the Rankin/Bass animated movies. The team at Ubi-Art did a very good job with it in my opinion. The animation is fluid and works well in tandem with the combat and music of the game. Also I should mention that this game story wise is a fairy tale and is told in a poetic format. Th…
