Transformers Age of Extinction

Transformers Age of Extinction Review

The Movie
Where to begin, where to begin. First of all it should be noted that I went into this movie with low expectations. A lot of the problems that I had with the previous three I had here as well and I want to get those out of the way first. The first part of this movie to me is pretty boring. With the exception of Mark Wahlberg and T.J. Miller the first part of this movie drags. Even the staple black ops team that is usually in every Michael Bay film I found to be lame and uninteresting. The new H.P.A in the film is Nicola Peltz and she looks entirely to young for some of the shots that Bay was using with her. I looked it up online and she's 19 but in the film she looks like she is 16 and her character is completely annoying. Another thing I found to be jarring was the numerous plot holes and the new autobots that tend to show up out of nowhere. They do introduce Galvatron and while I understand why they did it the way they did it, as a fa…

e3 2014 Wrap Up

e3 2014 Best of and thoughts on the show itself

e3 was last week and while I have done a few discussions on my YouTube channel I thought that I would put my thoughts down on my blog. On the whole I thought that e3 was actually pretty good. I thought that each company did a decent job, some better than others but overall the trade show was pretty good. Check out my breakdown.

Sony
Sony had an interesting conference and although I thought it was the weakest of the big three I did like some of the games that they presented. There press conference was pretty long and although I did wish that they would have started out with an exclusive title, what they showed of Destiny was pretty good and I have to say that I liked what they showed. A few more games were showed and some of the standouts, in my opinion, were The Order, No Man's Sky, and BloodBorne. Of course they showed a lot of third party games and some of those games are games that were out on the PS3 last year. That upset me as a ga…

Transistor Review

Image
Transistor - Available on PS4 and Steam

The Game
I am quickly becoming a fan of SuperGiant Games. The first game that I played from this developer was Bastion on XBox Live and it was great. Their follow up is Transistor and is  a lot like Bastion in its gameplay and structure. The game in and of itself is an interesting mix of action RPG and a side scrolling beat'em up. The story itself follows Red a nightclub singer who has lost her voice and her trusty sword. The sword does all of the talking by the way, just like the narrator did in Bastion. The sword basically tells the story and gives hints about where to go next and so on and so forth.

Artstyle
The art in this game is awesome. Cutscenes are done in a watercolor style with the main art of the game being kind of a mix between watercolor and techno art. At first, looking at the screens I thought that it wouldn't work but in game it worked well. The artstyle also works well in relation to the action as all the enemies have that …

22nd Jump Street

22nd Jump Street Review

The Movie
I have not laughed this hard in a movie in a long time. 22nd Jump Street is the sequel to 21 Jump Street starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. This movie calls themselves out. The movie is very self aware and all of the jokes they use work because of that simple fact. Characters tell you from the very beginning this is going to be just like last excepting with a bigger budget. Normally this would not be funny but then again I feel what makes this work is the fact that they tell you upfront. Last time the guys went back to high school this time they are going to college to find and bring down the supplier of a new drug called W.H.Y.P.H.Y (pronounced WiFi). From there hilarity and cameos ensue. For me personally Ice Cube stole the show. There is something that happens in this movie and when it does Ice Cube snaps and it's hilarious to see. The majority of the characters from the first movie return, most as just minor cameos but they are in there. On…

How To Train Your Dragon 2 Review

The Movie
First of all I would like to this time to calmly state that I thought this movie was FREAKING AWESOME!!!! I am big fan of animated features and for the past few years Dreamworks films have been doing a great job with their particular features. This movie is the sequel to the 2010 movie of the same name. The movie is set 5 years later and sees everyone in Berk living happily with their dragons. I won't go into to many details since I don't want to spoil the movie for anyone. This film is beautiful I have to give the artists major props as there are a lot of dragons in this film and they are all unique. I think some of the dragons from Fairy Tail are in the movie. The flying sequences are amazing to look at and brings me to the obvious point that much like the first film this movie should be seen in 3D. It is the best way to see the action in this movie and believe me there is a lot of action to be seen here. One of the things that I fou…

Maleficent

Maleficent Review

The Movie
Wow I was pleasantly surprised by this one. So I was finally able to go see this film a couple of nights ago and I have to say its pretty good. Most of you reading this probably have seen the original animated feature for Sleeping Beauty. In that movie you are introduced to Maleficent one of Disney's best baddies. This film actually works kind of like a Disney Origins Maleficent movie. Its an origin story that kind of tells you the story of Sleeping Beauty except from Maleficent's point of view.  You also get to know more about the character of Maleficent and I have to say its an interesting take on the story. All through out the movie there are little nods to the original feature. I found myself remembering events from that movie through out this one. I have to give it to Disney they did a very good job on the CG for this movie. Everything looked good from a visual standpoint and even the scenes where magic was used looked great as well. As for the a…

Street Fighter Assassin's Fist - Web Series Review

The Series
So Hollywood what do you say. In this web series we have a faithful adaptation of the Street Fighter story that's not animated. The series focuses on Ken, Ryu, Gouken, Gouki, and Gotestu. Its basically an origin story that deals with their fighting style and the birth of Akuma. The series does a good job showing the relationship between Ken and Ryu. Both of the actors did a good job representing each of the characters strengths and weaknesses. The flashback episodes in the series deal with Gouken and Gouki. Its very interesting how they delve into that backstory. On the whole the series is broken up in to 12 episodes that are 10 plus minutes long. It is much like the Mortal Kombat web series in that it is action based and that each of the character's movesets are represented faithfully. They also have music from the game sprinkled throughout the series. Like I said before this is an origin story that focuses on Ke…
