Film Review - One Piece Film Z

One Piece Film Z

The Movie
This movie originally came out in Japan in 2012. The movie revolves around a former Marine named Black Arm Zephyr and his desire to pretty much kill every pirate in the new world. This movie takes place after the 2 year time jump so if you are strictly watching the english dub you may be at a loss for why the characters look the way they do. Be that as it may, the movie is paced well and the animation is clean. Fans of One Piece will know what to expect as the movie has everything a fan of the series likes. The action in the movie is awesome. I have to give the creators of the movie credit the story is well done. A lot of the characters from the series show up in the movie as well and the back story on Zephyr is very well done. I really didn't have to many issues with this movie at all. I think that it is the best one in this series so far. Just so you know I have seen all of the movies and OVA's that have come out for One Piece. If I had any issues with the movie is that sometimes the comedy would feel a little out of place. Like there would be an important plot point and somebody would do something stupid. Oh yeah I almost forgot there is also a small ship battle that was animated very well. The climatic fight scene is also pretty freaking cool. I don't really know what it is about anime movies lately, but the Shonen movies have been having good fight sequences between the hero and villain.

For Parents
This movie does have some foul language and is heavy on the action. I wouldn't recommend that little children see this as it is aimed at the Teen crowd. Saying that its not as bad as any super hero movie that has come out recently.

The Verdict
I give this movie a FULL PRICE. Its a fun movie and its paced well. If you can get past the time jump, especially if you don't watch the Japanese version, the movie is still good. Also even if you aren't that big of a One Piece fan, its still a good movie and one that I recommend to any fan of Shonen anime.
