Comics Review: X-Men & Avengers Axis Book Three

Book Three: New World Disorder

The Event
So this week brought an end to the Axis Event. If you have been keeping up with this blog I have already discussed books one and two so I won't be getting into those. To me this event suffers from what previous events suffer from and that is the endgame. The beginning usually starts off very good and the middle is usually okay, but the ending is where things can spin out of control. With that being said let's start with my dislikes. For me, that's what happened with this story. It's almost as if Remender was trying to channel Avengers vs X-Men from two years ago. As the inverted heroes are trying to kill each other. The inverted villains and Spider-Man are trying to stop them. Many times during book three the writing felt out of control with to many things happening. It also doesn't help when there is more than one artist on each chapter, every artist has there own distinct style and having more than one can cause the story to…

First Impressions - Alphadia Genesis

Available on Wii U, PC, and Mobile
version played is Wii U

The Game
Alphadia Genesis is an JRPG game that is a throwback to the 16-bit days of role playing games.  Much like Final Fantasy 4 - 6 and Chrono Trigger the game boasts a top down view of the game world with enemy encounters being random. Its obvious that the developer has gone for that old school feel as there are no voice acted cutscenes and the artwork has a distinctly anime feel to it. The game centers around an investigation in to the murder of a rich man by two clones that he owns. The main character Fray and his younger sister Aurra, are the first two characters you meet. The king asks Fray to head an investigation into the murder and that's what kicks of the adventure. I am about five hours into the game itself and I have to say its not bad.

The Combat
This game uses turn based combat. I like my RPGs to have either turn based or action based combat. The combat system isn't to difficult to learn. I haven't run i…

Film Review - The Hobbit Battle of the Five Armies

The Movie
And that's a wrap folks. This movie marks the end of the Hobbit trilogy and brings an end to what is arguably one of the best film franchises of the generation. There is a lot to like here and some stuff to scratch your head at, especially if you have read the book. Now if you are a fan of the book then you already know that to make this three movies there had to be some elements added. I am going to leave the book out of it for the purpose of this review. Visually, the movie looks just like the previous films in the trilogy and I thought those films looked great. The movie picks up right where it left off with Smaug bearing down on Laketown and the people running in fear for their lives. It was action packed and I enjoyed it as the scene to me was intense. Benedict Cumberbatch is awesome as the dragon Smaug, as he sounds like wants to kill anything that moves. The standoff between him and Bard was great and the scene flowed very well to me. The CG in the film, while some…

Gaming Gift Ideas

Gift Ideas

What's up peeps. Today I wanted to help you out by giving some gift ideas for gamers. I'm pretty sure that there will be plenty of deals going on this week and next week. So what I want to do is give you a couple of picks for each system.

Nintendo's newest home console has a lot of variety this year in games released. This could make picking up games a little difficult. First thing you need to know is what kind of games the person you are buying for are in to, in other words, what genre's do they like. Once you know that picking up something should be a cinch. Here are a few of my favorites

Super Smash Bros U: The next title in the mascot Looney Toons fighting series featuring Nintendo characters. Its a pretty fun game, check out the game play video from yours truly.
Mario Kart 8: The kart racer is back this time with anti gravity tracks. It brings a whole new level to the game. Also the game supports amiibos, just like Smash Bros.
Bayonetta 2: My persona…

Film Review - RWBY Volume 2

RWBY Volume 2

The Volume
Its time for year 2 at Beacon with our favorite group of weapon masters/brawlers. Last year, this series was one of my favorite online shows and I even bought the dvd which was awesome as well. If you watched the first volume online the episodes were short and many people had an issue with this. This time around all of the episodes were around 15 minutes long, this made for more time with characters and getting to know them and their motivations for the particular series. The stakes in this season/volume were not exactly high because you still kind of don't know what is going on and neither do the characters. Visually, the show looks better than the first volume and the backgrounds look better and well down. Now when you watch RWBY you watch it for the action and the action is great. Each character's abilities are on display and fights are choreographed very well. Each episode in the volume got better in my opinion. Everything that you loved in volume 1 …

What Gaming Means To Me

A Gamer's Thoughts

If you know me, you know that I am an anime fan. I have been watching various anime since the late 90's and I have always liked them for various reasons but most importantly for how well their stories relate to life issues. One of my favorite anime's this year is Log Horizon, which is in its second season, its a series about gamers being trapped in an MMO game called Elder Tale. I will not get in to the specifics of that story but this past week's episode dealt with something I feel is relevant to true gamers.

When I say true gamers, I mean those people who do not bash others for what console's or games they enjoy playing. People who can talk to you about any game and treat anyone wanting to know about their preferences with respect without judging and insulting them. It is truly a shame that today a lot of people call themselves gamers or hardcore gamers and that title could not be any further from the truth.

Being a gamer for the majority of my li…

Game Cafe Reviews - Super Smash Bros U

Super Smash Bros U - Available on the Wii U

The Game
One of Nintendo's best franchise's is back on this time on both the 3DS and Wii U. For this review though I'll just be focusing on the Wii U version. From the opening video the game is just beautiful to look at, Sakurai and his team really out done themselves on this one. If you have played any of the other games in the series then you know what to expect. For those who don't know, Smash Bros is at its core a love letter to Nintendo fans. It is a 2D fighter that answers that most basic of questions, "Who would win in a fight, Mario or Link? Samus or Zelda?" It is a game that is the very definition of easy to play but hard to master. The series in and of itself is beloved by even the hardcore competitive gamer scene, as evidenced by matches seen at EVO. There are a plethora of ways to play and virtually every controller that is usable on the U is available for the game. However, if you were lucky enough to get…
