First Impressions - Ace Combat Assault Horizon Legacy +

Image
Avaliable on Nintendo 3DS

The Game
This is the newest game in the Ace Combat series and is on the 3DS. There is a lot to like with this game. If you like the movie Top Gun than you will enjoy this as the game revolves around the dog fighting combat mechanic. The game has a Story mode, Challenge mode, Data Viewer, Options, and a place for amiibo use. The story mode has you facing off against rebel forces as a member of the allied fighting forces. Using different fighter jets to handle the varying missions that you are given. After each mission there is a replay option, where you can view how well you did. Amiibo support is awesome as the use of certain amiibo's allow you to unlock special fighter jets, parts, and weapons, plus they look completely and totally badass.

The Combat
Its all about the dog fights in this game. They are intense and can played in a variety of different views. Personally, I like playing in third person view so that I can see everything in the area. There is a …

The New Nintendo 3DS XL

The Good What's up peeps. Just wanted to give everyone my thoughts on Nintendo's upgraded handheld. There is a lot to like about this system. For starters the 3D is now better than ever due to the system utilizing face tracking in order to keep the 3D stable. The visuals are a lot clearer and the sound cleaner. The surround sound never sounded better when you have some good headphones plugged in to the system. Another upgrade that was made, was to the processor. It is way faster now and no where does that shine more than in Smash Bros for the 3DS. The game loads noticeably faster than on the regular 3DS. The Internet Browser also benefits from the upgraded processor as well as the YouTube app. I must admit I do not watch NetFlix or Hulu on my 3DS so I won't be able to tell you if the processing power works there as well. If I had to guess though I would say yes it does. The new system does support amiibo and one of the games I used it was Ace Combat…

Film Review - Kingsman: The Secret Service

Image
The Movie
This was a fun movie. It is actually fun to have a spy movie that isn't taking itself serious again and I am very happy for that. Kingsman is based on a graphic novel, The Secret Service by Mark Millar. He is the same guy that wrote Kick Ass, just in case you are wondering.  The film itself is throwback to those old James Bond movies, the pre Daniel Craig films. You know the ones. They had the ridiculous villains, henchmen with some kind of disfigurement or super power, and a beautiful woman. Back then you knew the story was stupid but you really didn't care because it was just a fun time in the theater. The action in this movie is great. The fights are equal parts vicious and breath taking. The acting is great and there are some cameos in the film as well. Sam Jackson's villainous character Valentine, is very funny. I found myself laughing at some of the stuff he was saying. Colin Firth as the gentlemen spy, Harry Hart, is awesome as always. There are even a cou…

Film Review - Rurouni Kenshin

Kyoto Inferno & The Legend Ends

The Movie
A few days ago a fellow anime enthusiast and myself reviewed this live action version of one of our favorite animes', I decided that I should probably write down my thoughts on this film being that it is a film that shows Hollyweird how to do anime/manga movies right. This movie is the live action adaptation of The Legend of Kyoto Arc from the anime/manga of Rurouni Kenshin. If you are a fan of the Kenshin series and this arc you will be happy to note that the filmmakers do an awesome job of translating the source material to film. Every character involved looks like a great representation of how they looked in the original medium. The costume design, set pieces, and action sequences are all exceptional as well. Every main confrontation that was in the original story is in the film and the fights are very satisfying. Another thing that I love about this film is that every characters signature move is on display and is tackled in a way t…

Film Review - Jupiter Ascending

Image
The Movie
A space opera film written and directed by the Wachowski's, a movie that I have to say is very beautiful. This movie revolves around Jupiter Jones, played by Mila Kunis, a cleaning lady who lets you know how much her life sucks. You spend time with Jupiter as she tells the story of her birth, how her parents met, and how she ended up with her family in Chicago. Little does she know that her life is about to get turned upside down as she is the reincarnation of the mother of the universe's richest 1% douchebag families. Of course I mean that in the most hilarious way possible. People I am going to level with you, the movie isn't bad. The CG is great and the action sequences are amazing. The Wachowski's really know how to make the visual's pop and they do a lot of cool things in the movie. The alien designs as well as the creature designs are varied and unique. The movie does a good job of building up an expansive world that makes you feel kind of small in i…

Film Review - Seventh Son

The Movie
So after taking off January because, in all honesty, there was nothing I wanted to see in a theater. I am a fan of sword and sorcery movies as I am a fan of fantasy fiction. So I was looking forward to seeing this movie. It has a decent cast and a few of my favorite actors starring in the film. The movie revolves around a Witch, Mother Malkin, played by Julianne Moore who is on a quest to pretty much light the world on fire. Standing in her way is Master Gregory, played by Jeff Bridges and his young apprentice Tom Ward, played by Ben Barnes. There are some good things about this movie. One being that I liked the set design and the CG, I thought they were done very well and helped to create the appropriate atmosphere. The action sequences were also done very well. The transformations that happen are done in a believable manner for these types of movies and you can see everything clearly. The trailer gives some stuff away but not all of it and the visual representation is not …

Game Review - Halo Master Chief Collection

Image
The Game
This game is one of the main reasons I wanted an XBONE. All four Halo games in one affordable package with access to the Halo 5 Beta and access to the Halo Nightfall series as well. I mean whats not to like. How could this be nothing more than success. Well if you botch your launch that is one way to get your fanbase worried. That being said there is a lot to like with this collection. First, you get all four Halo games running smoothly and on one disc. With the exception of the first one I think that they all look great and are well done. Everything is there that you love from the music, to the voice acting, and story. 343 Studios also touched up the cutscenes in the game and added others so that it will make sense with Halo 5 releases. A lot of the work, and this is just my opinion, went in to Halo 2 as that game to me stands out as the best out of the whole collection. The game interface is easy to navigate as well and I am thankful for that. If you want to play the Campai…
