First Impressions - Fast Racing Neo

Image
Available on Nintendo Wii U

The Game
One of my personal most anticipated games of 2015 is here. Fast Racing Neo is the sequel to Fast Racing from Shin' en Multimedia. As you may have guessed this is a racing game and a budget title at that (nothing wrong with that). That being said this game is fun. Graphically, it looks great there is always something happening in the background of each of the tracks. A nice touch that Shin' en added was weather effects. That's right there are weather effects in this game and it works beautifully and looks great as well. Like its name this game is FAST!!! Imagine Mario Kart with 1000cc and you might be close to the slowest cup in this game. Its an amazing feat that the game is running at 720p and 60 frames per second especially with the extra things going on in the background.

The Gameplay
It's a racing game. I mean I don't think you can get more straight forward than that, however, this game will remind you of F-Zero or Wipeout. It…

Film Review - Star Wars The Force Awakens

*Don't worry this will be a spoiler free review. The podcast review that I will be doing later will not be spoiler free.*

The Movie
I saw the movie early this morning and its taken a while to compile my thoughts. Translation I'm trying not to spoil anything for you. I have to give it to J.J. Abrams and the entire crew because they know how to capture the essence of a movie. The film feels like a natural extension and next chapter after Return of the Jedi. The movie's visuals are fantastic and do a great job of mixing the practical effects with the CGI. Everything from the TIE fighters, to the X-Wings, to the Imperial Crusiers, and yes the Millenium Falcon look great and bring a real sense of nostalgia to the film. Some people may not like this but I actually like some of the story elements/scenes that are ripped straight from previous films in the original trilogy. I found them to be funny homages to those films. The acting is great in this film. John Boyega and Daisy Ridle…

First Impressions - Xenoblade Chronicles X

Image
Available on Wii U

The Game
Twenty hours in and this game is one of my favorites of the year. This game is HUGE and exploring it is a lot of fun. The game has a great opening as Earth is caught in the middle of a war between two alien races, with the Earth paying the price. Your ship, one of the few to actually get off of the planet before it blows crash lands on the planet of Mira and from there your story begins. If you have played Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii, then you understand the basics of the combat and how the game works. Everything in the game has been expanded upon and improved in my opinion. Graphically, I think that the game is beautiful. However, there are some elements that look fairly generic. For example, some parts of New LA, the game's hub/base looks like they were from a PS2 game. Once you go outside and into the wilds of Mira that's where the games visuals are simply amazing. The environments are varied and contain different elements that make each area …

Final Super Smash Bros Direct Presentation

My Thoughts
Well it was a good run on Smash and I am glad to say that one of the best games of 2014 got a great sendoff yesterday. Masahiro Sakurai was in charge of the festivities of course. What we got was the final two characters that will be coming to Smash as well as some details about Cloud Strife. Here is what I thought about the reveals as well as if I am excited to try any of them out.

First up was Corrin. He is the new character in Fire Emblem Fates that will be hitting the 3DS early next year. Much like Robin there will be a female version of the character that will be playable with the same moveset. Now the interesting thing about the character in my opinion is how his moves are set. During this portion, Sakurai went in to good detail about his moveset and what Corrin's strengths are and how some of his moves operate. To me the character seems perfect for those players who are overly aggressive at least that's the vibe I get at first glance. His character has a ten…

Film Review - Creed

Image
Disclaimer - I'm late I know, however I have finally watched a movie I meant to watch the first week it was out. I will not spoil any major plot points in the following review.

The Movie
So I finally got around to watching Creed and I must say not bad, not bad at all. The movie revolves around Michael B. Jordan's character of Adonis. The son of Apollo Creed albeit illegitimate son. The film follows Donnie's journey as he strikes out to make a name for himself and create his own legacy apart from that of his father. It must be said, this film is shot beautifully. It does a great job of staying true to the Rocky film franchise while also differentiating itself for a new generation of fans. Fans of the original Rocky movies will notice a lot of beats and nods from the previous films in the movie. To me, that's not a bad thing. It gives older fans a sense of the familiar while simultaneously doing the little things to make the film feel different and from a fresh perspectiv…

First Impressions - Rodea The Sky Soldier

Image
Available on Wii U, Wii, 3DS; version played Wii U

The Game
This is a game that I will admit that I was looking forward to for a while now. I am a fan of Yuji Naka (the creator of Sonic the Hedgehog) and his games since they have been known to be enjoyable (at least to me).  The game opens up in the middle of a battle between two armies. Rodea is doing what he can to get to the princess and protect her. Due to events the happen later he is found 1,000 years later and that is where the story truly begins. Graphically, the game looks like a Wii title even on the Wii U. That's not saying that it looks ugly but it doesn't look amazing either. Characters have an anime look and feel to them and in all honesty it kind of reminds me of Nights into Dreams that was on the Sega Saturn. There has been a lot of talk about this game especially since Naka came out and urged people to play the Wii version of the game as it is the superior version. His words, not mine. Of course this leads into…

Series Review - Jessica Jones

Image
Series available on NetFlix

The Series
Jessica Jones is the second Marvel Netflix collaboration show and is loosely based on the Alias comic that ran from 2001 to 2004 (I think). The story revolves around a former superhero, Jessica Jones, who is now a Private Investigator working in Hell's Kitchen New York. Right from the start the show goes for a film noir style and kind of reminds me of some of the old private eye films of the 50's and 60's. I am going to try and stay away from spoilers in this discussion. While I enjoyed the series as a whole there were some things that I didn't like and I just want to get those out of the way. First, I thought that some of the fight/action sequences could have been shot better. There is one scene in particular that just looked like it was edited really bad. Some of the side characters I could care less about and its basically because I thought that they served no purpose. There were a couple of plot threads that I also thought were…
