Film Review - Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny

Image
The Movie
NetFlix seems to be on a mission don't they. Here is the sequel to the 2001 movie, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Michelle Yeoh returns in this movie which sees her trying to protect the Green Destiny, this time from an evil prick of a warlord named Hades Dai played by Jason Scott Lee. There is a lot to like in this movie especially if you are a fan of the original film. The cinematography is great, the sets look amazing, and the acting is pretty good. I know, I know, you want to know about the fighting and I have to say I found it entertaining. Be warned, if you are not a fan of what has commonly been referred to as "wire-fu" then you're probably not going to like this movie. Yuen Woo Ping lends his signature style to this movie and it works for the most part. The movie is also in full english so you don't have to worry about subtitles unless you want to use them. Now back to the fighting. Seriously though this movie hits a lot of the same beats that t…

A Gamer's Thoughts - Princess Zelda

Image
The Games
Since The Legend of Zelda just turned 30 recently, I thought it would be a good idea to take a quick look at the Princess herself and give my thoughts on this awesome character. Zelda is the beloved Princess of Hyrule and in each game in the series she is known for being wise beyond her years and loved by all. In the first few games I have to admit she was in the role of damsel in distress, as the  story mainly took a fairy tale type format. However, this changed immensely in the 98 video game release Ocarina of Time. In that game and the following console release titles she has grown to be much more than your typical Princess. While the vast majority of games do not allow the player to play as her she is always doing something to help in the background. In all honesty Link would never make it through the games without help from Zelda and playing through the games and paying attention to the story helps the player to see how important she is in the grand scheme of things.  W…

Game Impressions - Assassin's Creed Chronicles India

Image
Available on PSN, XBLive, & Steam

The Game
This is a budget title and the second game in the Chronicles series of 2.5D side scrolling stealth games. This game revolves around Arbaaz Mir the assassin that is in love with a princess. The setting for this game ironically is India and I have to say graphically its beautiful. Its more colorful than the China installment of the series this helps to differentiate it from that installment as the game looks and has a more vibrant feel to it. Other than that though graphically the character models and environments look a lot like the China installment. If you liked Assassin's Creed Chronicles China then it is more of the same. The game is focused on stealth not wanton violence and property damage. The game does a good job also of making Arbaaz feel different from Shao Jun as his style can be a little more flamboyant than hers.

The Game play/Combat
Arbaaz's game play is a lot different from Shao Jun's in my opinion. He appears to b…

Film Review - Deadpool

Image
The Movie
This is the perfect anti-hero comic book movie. If you are a fan of Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds nailed it and the funny thing about it is EVERYTHING. This movie is funny from the opening credits to the ending credits. You are going to laugh in this movie and you are going to laugh a lot. Don't worry I won't spoil anything plot wise in this movie as I want people to see it and you need to to take in all of the awesomeness. This movie has everything, action, gore, comedy, and something I was not expecting and actual love story. Yes, they put a love story in here and it worked. There is 4th wall breaking humor in here and its not awkward and it comes at the right time. Let me just say this if you are a fan of Warner Bros. or 20th Century Fox you may be a little uncomfortable in this movie. He takes jabs at them whenever he has a chance and it is hilarious. The action is way over the top but it works in the context of the movie. Also the humor is dark, so if you are one of t…

First Impressions - Dragon Quest Heroes

Image
Available on PS4, PS3, and PC. Version played PS4

The Game
So I finally got my hands on Dragon Quest Heroes a few weeks ago. This is a Koei Tecmo game and is in the same vein as the Dynasty Warriors games, in other words its a musou game. Like the One Piece Pirate Warriors game, this game has the musou style and game play but the setting is in the Dragon Quest world. The game revolves around monsters and people living together in harmony. As a matter of fact the game opens up at a festival when all of the sudden the monsters lose their minds and start attacking the townsfolk. At this point you pick what character you want to start with and proceed to clear the castle and town of the rampaging monsters. Along the way you meet a variety of playable characters with their own unique styles. Graphically, the game is beautiful. Koei Tecmo and that team does a great job with the art style and environments. Anime fans or fans of the Dragon Ball and Dr. Slump series' of manga will notice th…

A Gamer's Thoughts - Bayonetta

Image
The Games
In a time where all forms of entertainment is looking to be more diverse and inclusive one game is as fun as it is controversial. Bayonetta from Platinum Games is a action game that is based on a witch named, ironically, Bayonetta. The two games have gotten a lot of praise as well as a lot of hate. This being the age of social media its not hard to imagine the hate. Still, I find the haterade that is usually thrown at this game and character to be misplaced and at times wholly inaccurate. First, lets be clear on one thing. These games are rated M for Mature. In other words they are meant for gamers 17 and older, that being said there are elements in the game that are meant for mature audiences. Such as language and gore, most of the enemies in the games are forms of angels and demons and she beats both with extreme prejudice and a witty retort. From torture attacks to monstrous summons as well as the various weapons she uses these games are packed with Platinum's signatu…

Film Review - Batman Bad Blood

Image
The Movie
Not to be confused with the Taylor Swift track, this movie is the newest film from DC animation. This particular focuses on a majority of the Bat family. Batman is missing and its up to Nightwing, Robin (Damien Wayne), Batwoman, and BatWing to find him while also trying to figure out who the Heretic is and what is gang is up to in Gotham. I am not going to spoil this movie for anyone but this movie is great from start to finish. The animation is clean and fluid. You can tell what's going on in the action sequences at all times. They also do a good job of introducing Batwoman and Batwing into the animated movies. In my opinion they give you just enough that if they wanted to do their own movies they could. The voice acting is very good as Jason O'Mara returns as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Stuart Allen as Robin/Damian Wayne, Sean Maher as Nightwing/Dick Grayson, Yvonne Strahovski as Batwoman/Katherine Kane, and Gaius Charles as Batwing/Luke Fox. If you have been following the…
