Film Review - Star Trek Beyond
Captain James Kirk and the crew of the Starship Enterprise are back for another adventure out in space. This time Kirk and the crew are deep into their five year mission out in space and the crew are starting to get in their feelings a little bit. People are getting homesick and Kirk is actually starting to question what his purpose is within Star Fleet. When the crew is set up and ambushed on a mission to help stranded explorers they run into the villainous Krall who needs a piece of a weapon that is aboard the Enterprise in order to destroy the Federation. Best synopsis I can think of at the moment. If you have seen any of the earlier films in this rebooted series then you should know what to expect by now. Justin Lin is taking over directing duties from J.J. Abrams and in all honesty the movie felt just like the previous films. Although, I must admit that this film did not have as many tense moments as Into Darkness did they still felt the same tonally in my opinion. The cast of the movie do an excellent job once again as everybody slips back into their roles with ease. There weren't many issues that I had with the film, as I stated earlier you know what to expect by now and to me it felt like more of the same sci-fi goodness that I have come to enjoy. The film is paced well and I didn't feel like there were any slow parts in the film. If I had a problem with the film I would have to say it was with the villain. The film does a good job of showing what happened to him to make him do the things that he was doing and why he wanted the Federation destroyed; I just felt like there was something missing. Maybe its just me but I didn't feel like he was an especially terrifying villain. That's just my opinion though, I think the movie wanted to focus on Kirk and Spock figuring out there place and that was the important conflict of the movie.
This movie is rated PG-13. In all honesty if they have seen the other two films in the series they can watch this one. There is about two lines where some language was used but nothing to vulgar. There aren't any half butt naked women in this one and outside of maybe one or two jumpscare scenes (that shouldn't affect any adult) there isn't anything that I think is to bad for the little ones.
I give this movie a MATINEE. Its a fun movie that is paced well. It does run about 2 hours and I didn't feel the time at all. The action scenes are very well done as well as the space battles. There is also a couple of sequences involving some old school hip hop and rock music that is a nice little throwback.
