Thoughts on the Luke Cage Netflix Series
Sup peeps. Since I didn't do a San Diego Comic Con review or thoughts post I am going to just talk about some of my favorite reveals from the show. First up is the Luke Cage Netflix Series. They revealed a trailer at comic con and of course they had a panel with the actors but earlier this week an official trailer was released and I can't even lie it got me hyped for the show. As you may know I am first and foremost an X-Men fan. The X-Men universe is what got me interested in comics and manga but that doesn't mean I wasn't aware of other comics. The Heroes for Hire and Luke Cage comics were one of those comics that I paid attention to and grew to like.
The Character and The Show
Cage himself isn't a really complicated hero. He is a straight forward tells it like it is hero who you would want on your side when crap hits the fan. He gained his abilities from a sabotaged experiment while in prison for a crime he didn't commit. Basically, another doctor in the Marvel Universe was trying to recreate the super soldier serum that gave Steve Rogers his abilities. As a result Luke Cage gained super human strength, a limited healing factor, and unbreakable skin. He's basically invunerable. Its also important to note that in the comics its not known how powerful he truly is as he seems to get stronger depending on who he's facing. He's teamed up with a lot of heroes through the years but he's known for teaming up with his "brother" Danny Rand the Iron Fist. Their dynamic in the comic is kind of like Lethal Weapon if you're looking for a reference. From what I can tell in the trailer the tone seems to be that of an urban crime drama basically starting where Jessica Jones left off and showing you what Cage is up to following the events of that series. The cast looks to be solid as Marvel once again is able to get some recognizable actors from both TV and Movies to be in their shows. I am really looking forward to Simone Missick's portrayal of Misty Knight (hopefully she gets her bionic arm at some point) and Mahershala Ali's portrayal of Cottonmouth Stokes. I have to give Marvel credit, their Netflix shows are very good and this looks to be as well. I was impressed with Colter's portrayal in Jessica Jones and September 30th can't get here fast enough for me.
What I would like to See
By now everyone knows that the Marvel shows are leading up to a team up show called the Defenders. One thing that I would like to see this show do is have an appearance from Kristen Ritter's Jessica Jones. Why? There is a plot point from Jessica Jones that didn't get resolved in Season 1 of that series and in my opinion it should be resolved before Defenders so there aren't any wasted episodes dealing with that plot point. Another thing I would like to see, and this is just the fan in me, I would love to see Luke cross paths with Danny Rand. I love their dynamic in the comics and would love to see a Heroes for Hire series of maybe a NetFlix movie. I'm down for either one of those options. Lastly, even though it probably won't happen in Season 1 I would love to see Misty Knight get her bionic arm. I just think its cool that she has it and how overall badass she is with it. So that's all I got for this one. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below. Are you hyped for Luke Cage? Also, what would you like to see in Season 1?
