Impressions - Street Fighter V Story Mode

Available on PS4 and PC; version played PS4

The Street Fighter V story mode is a pretty straightforward story. Its not the one that came with the game at launch (THANK GOD) but a story that revolves around Bison getting an increase in power and the Street Fighters trying to stop them. Well some of them anyway. I'm gonna say this right now, the story is ridiculous but let's be honest you're here for the gameplay and fighting. Well the mode is setup to where you will control different characters as you traverse through the mode. Sometimes you will fight as one of the good guys, sometimes as the villains. Its as about as straightforward of a mode as you can get but I think that it works in this particular case. I found myself enjoying it and yes there are a few cameos of characters from other games namely Street Fighter 3 & 4, that I am sure fans of those games will notice and get a little chuckle out of when they see them. I do have a small issue with the mode th…

Recommendations - Super Mario RPG

Available on SNES and Wii U Virtual Console; played via Virtual Console

The Game
Okay so I have a confession to make, I never played this game when it originally came out back in `96. I wasn't in to Mario as much and while I love a good RPG at that time it wasn't my go to favorite genre. That being said, this game is a helluva lot of fun. I'm actually digging the comedy and moveset's in the game so far and let's be honest I'm not looking for a serious story here. This a 16 bit game so graphical fidelity will be a little lacking but I will say this, the game looks good. It also plays good as well, which is awesome for a game 20 years old. The story starts out much like your average Mario game. Princess Toadstool (yes they call her Toadstool), gets kidnapped by Bowser and Mario goes to save her. Following that introductory fight you find out that there is a new enemy to face and with the way to the Princess closed off you go off in search of a way to get her back.…

Film Review - The Magnificent 7

The Movie
If you don't know this movie is a remake of the original 1960 film of the same name. This movie, however, has been updated and has an incredibly diverse cast. The plot of the film is very straightforward. Hardworking homesteaders in a town in the Wild West where gold has been found are being threatened by evil douche land baron. Enter an ecletic mix of men with various skill sets to defend the town from evil douche and evil douche's army. I think you get the point. This movie hits and gives viewers everything they love and hate about Westerns. Yeah the story gets hella predictable. There are two big shoot out scenes. There is a "high noon type" scene between hero and villain. There heroes are insanely accurate shots, while the villains are pretty much cannon fodder at points. And of course there is the customary Gatlin Gun scene. Yes, there will be some cliched points in the film but much like my Suicide Squad review; I feel this films greatest strength is …

Netflix Special - Cedric the Entertainer Live from the Ville

Available now on NetFlix

The Special
Netflix has a new comedy special up for everyone's viewing pleasure featuring one of my favorite all time comedians, Cedric the Entertainer. The special runs at 60 minutes, which is about normal for most of the comedy specials I have seen on NetFlix. The jokes were funny and a lot of the topics were relevant to an extent. The opening set is with the Tennessee State band which isn't that bad as they pretty much open/introduce him at the same time. It works for me as it isn't to long it feels just right in terms of length. It kind of reminds me of how Sinbad usually starts his specials just not quite as long as he would normally go with the intro set. If you are a fan of Cedric there is a lot to like here. There is a lot of language so just keep that in mind. Then again he is one of the original kings of comedy so that should tell you right there that this ain't for the little ones viewing pleasure. This is for the grown folks.

Impressions - Amiibo Tap

Available on Wii U

The Positives
I don't know about you but I do so love games that are Free.99. Amiibo Tap is one such title available on the Nintendo eShop for the Wii U. The game lets you play certain virtual console games, well certain scenes from those games at least, for 180 seconds at a time. You use the various amiibo you have to unlock a certain title. The titles are chosen at random and can only be accessed by the amiibo that unlocked said title. There are a lot of titles to unlock but I am pretty sure that if you have amiibo you have more than one. Any amiibo works to unlock a title so in that way you don't have to worry about that being an issue. All of the games from what I can tell are from the NES and SNES era, so expect some 8bit and 16bit love. Personally, I think its a pretty decent lineup from the old school and should help people figure out what they may want to pick up after trying out whichever scene you play from the game that is unlocked.

The Negatives

Nintendo Direct 9.1.16 Thoughts

What I Liked
So last Thursday Nintendo had a Direct showcasing the 3DS and discussing titles that would release for the rest of this year and the early part of next year. I did host a Gamers @ Large thoughts podcast back on last Thursday where you can hear myself and Liger of N-Duo's thoughts on the cast as a whole. Here I just want to talk about what I liked and what I didn't like with the presentation. First, the likes. Overall, there was a lot of content discussed and updates dropped and I thought that the presentation in its entirety was pretty good. It had been a while since the last Direct and it was good to get a new presentation. The games that I found to be interesting were Pokemon Sun & Moon and their introduction of Z-Moves. This will no doubt add a layer of strategy to the game that should be a welcome edition for fans of the series. Super Mario Maker 3DS is another title that I was interested in, made for on the go gaming I think it may work out well for Ninte…

Impressions - Mighty No. 9

Available on PS4, XBONE, Wii U, PSVita, 3DS, PC; version played PS4

The Game
Boy is this going to be interesting. So I played Mighty No. 9 before I got sick and that's why I am just now doing this post for the game. As you may well know this game has had its fair share of criticisms and I can understand those as a matter of fact I actually agree with some of them. Its fair to say that this game is an homage to the Mega Man games of the late 80's and 90's with a lot of familiarity, gameplay wise. In my opinion, the gameplay of this game is on point. Looking at it from a gameplay standpoint that is the best part of the game. As a matter of fact its probably one of the few bright spots in the experience. The problem with this game is the presentation. To be honest the game just looks bad. The character designs look like bad Astro Boy ripoffs. The level design, while not bad, doesn't help with all the blocky design choices for some of the background details like cars and ot…
