Film Review - Rogue One A Star Wars Story

The Movie
I have to say I am pleasantly surprised. Gareth Edwards and company made a prequel movie that I immensely enjoyed even though everyone knows how this ends. Don't worry this review is spoiler free. Now that that's out of the way. This movie details the events surrounding how the plans for the Death Star wound up with the rebellion. There is a lot to love here from both a Star Wars fan and as a fan of movies. The movie has a feel of realism to it as the scenes have a grittiness to them that we haven't seen in the Star Wars films until this point. Storm Trooper uniforms look dirty and worn, some droids look like they could use some fresh paint. The cinematography is amazing and from a visual standpoint the world felt more real and not as clean as in previous Star Wars films. The cast is great nobody feels to over the top in their respective roles except for one of my favorite characters in the movie K2SO. There is humor in the movie and a lot of it came from K2SO.  There are a lot of great character moments as well, that works especially when there are literally no Jedi in this movie. I didn't even think about it until I left the theater that there were no Jedi in the film and I was completely fine with that revelation. The action scenes are fantastic and I should let you know that this movie plays out like a war movie. The dog fights were okay, I liked them but not as much as I liked the ground battles. You saw some of this in the trailer but watching it in the theater is something else especially during the climax of the film. Now there are a couple of things that I didn't like but they are more like nitpicks. One is the CGI they had to do on Grand Moff Tarkin and Princess Leia. Something just seemed off about it Leia is pretty much fine but Tarkin is in a few scenes and it started to look bad to me. The only other thing I didn't like was the main villain for the film, Krennic, I feel like I didn't know enough about him other than he was just angry and British. I will say this though the cape was pimpin, for real.

For Parents
The movie is PG-13. It should be noted that this movie is filmed kind of like a war movie. There is a lot of death in this film and while is not gory or anything like that the film does a good job of making you feel it, so to speak. The movie clocks in at about 2 hours and 15 min but is paced very well.

Final Thoughts
This movie is getting a FULL PRICE from me. This is just a well made film and I believe its one that raises the bar for the rest of the Star Wars movies going forward. Really good movie from start to finish in my opinion. Have you seen it yet? What did you think about the movie? Let me know in the comments below.
