TV Series Review - Marvel's The Punisher

Season 1 Available on NetFlix

Synopsis (from IMDB): After the murder of his family, Marine veteran Frank Castle became a vigilante known as the Punisher with only one goal in mind, to avenge them.

Sorry for the wait on this one people but here is what I thought about the Punisher. If you have seen Daredevil season 2 then you were introduced to Jon Bernthal's take on Frank Castle. A man whose family had been killed in a drug deal gone bad. The opening to this series begins with Frank cleaning up loose ends from the gangs he hunted in Hell's Kitchen. With the ones responsible now very much dead, Frank tries to live a quiet life but it's not long before he uncovers a conspiracy and is pulled back into being the Punisher. Like the other shows in the Marvel Netflix wheelhouse, this show is very grounded and deals with real-world issues. Issues like reintegrating soldiers back into society, PTSD, depression, dependency, and many others. I liked that aspect of the show as it made …

FIlm Review - BRIGHT

Available on NetFlix

Synopsis (from IMDB): Set in a world where mystical creatures live side by side with humans. A human cop is forced to work with an Orc to find a weapon everyone is prepared to kill for.

Not gonna lie, this movie has gotten a lot of hate from critics and to be honest I don't know why. Personally, I found the movie to be interesting especially the premise, as it mashes together the fantasy beings with real-world issues. There is a lot to like here in my opinion, especially if you are a fan of David Ayer's movies. Visually, the film looks a lot like End of Watch, with a large portion of the film taking place at night. Even though it's at night I could still see everything clearly and that is important to me as a viewer. As far as the actors are concerned, I feel that they did a good job. Joel Edgerton and Will Smith are great in the film and I thought Joel Edgerton's Jakoby was awesome. Will is basically being Will in this movie and some of the Will Sm…

Film Review - Star Wars The Last Jedi (Non Spoiler of course)

Synopsis (from IMDB): Rey develops her newly discovered abilities with the guidance of Luke Skywalker, who is unsettled by the strength of her powers. Meanwhile, the Resistance prepares to do battle with the First Order.

First of all just wow. I enjoyed this movie for a number of reasons and I am not going to lie I will have to go back for a second viewing because I feel like I may have missed some things story-wise. From the outset, the movie looks great. I love the shots and all of the alien life on the different planets. The cinematography was great as well, the overall look of the movie amazed me. I can't really put my finger on it but it was just something about the visual's in this movie that worked for me. As for the story, this one of the more character-driven stories in the Star Wars movies that I can remember. The cast really made the story work in my opinion as each of the character's struggles and questions led to some of my very own questions. The story picks …

Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild
Available on the Wii U and Nintendo Switch

This game while being a great addition for fans of the series it is also a great jumping on point as well. Hyrule has never looked like this before and there is a lot to do in the game that keeps gamers busy for hours. Personally, I have put over 250 hours into this game and I still love adventuring through Hyrule. There are plenty of secrets to find and side quests as well. There is a reason why this game won Game of The Year across multiple gaming sites.

Available on Nintendo Switch

If you're looking for something a little different in the fighting genre, you don'…

Impressions - 20 Hours In Xenoblade Chronicles II

Available on Nintendo Switch

Thoughts So Far
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is the latest in the Xenoblade series and feels more like the Xenoblade game that came out on the Wii. The game follows a young salvager named Rex who lives in the world of Alrest. The world itself is an interesting one in that all of the inhabitants lives on and in large beings called Titans. Each Titan is different and showcases different terrain and people. Everything you love about the Xenoblade series is here. Visually, the game looks great although I will say that certain areas in Xenoblade Chronicles X look better, for the most part, this game looks great as well. I am really digging the character design as it takes a more anime style approach and yes there are a few characters that people will probably be upset about as their costumes are a bit on the fanservice side of things. Just so you know the artist that designed a majority of the characters is a woman, and honestly, I think she did a fantastic job. I als…

First Impressions - Sonic Forces

Available on Nintendo Switch, XBONE, PS4

Thoughts Overall
Contrary to popular belief, I don't think this game is as bad as people think. Normally, with the Sonic franchise the fans are stuck in two camps, the original 2D Sonic games and the 3D Sonic games. To be honest the 3D games have had more ups and downs than some people would care to admit. This game, however, is a mix of the 2D and 3D gameplay that has been showing up since Sonic Colors on the Wii, as a matter of fact, the team behind this game is comprised of members of both Colors and Generations. The story behind this game is that Eggman has finally found a way to take over the world. The game opens with Sonic being defeated and when the game opens back up its some time later. This is where I think some people have a major issue with the game, at this point the player creates there own avatar to play with in the game. Now you won't play the whole game as your character but there are missions in the game in which you w…

Series Review - Fate/Apocrypha

Available on NetFlix

Synopsis (from IMDB): In an alternate universe the theft of the Holy Grail 50 years previously ushers in a new conflict between the Mages Association and the rebellious Yggdmillenia family. With the activation of the Greater Grail, 15 servants are summoned for an unprecedented battle royale in a new Holy Grail War.

Fate/Apocrypha is the latest story in the Fate series. If you are new to the series, this show may not be the best one to start with as they don't spend a lot of time explaining the Grail War. That being said this story is not in line with the rest of the series and is set in an alternate universe. For this Holy Grail War, the battle will take place between two separate factions, Red (the Mages Association) and Black (the Yggdemillenia Family). The series has always had great animation and that doesn't change with this latest story. The action scenes are where this anime shines, as every fight is well done. The story itself has a lot of twists an…

Impressions - Marvel's Runaways Episodes 1 - 3

Available on Hulu

Synopsis (from IMDB): Follows a group of six teenagers - Nico Minoru, Karolina Dean, Molly Hernandez, Chase Stein, Gertrude Yorkes, and Alex Wilder - who discover that their parents are members of a super-villain cabal called The Pride. After deciding that they are no longer safe in their own homes, the kids go on the run. In the midst of hiding from their elders, the teens learn about themselves and become a family of their own.

Normally, I do a review at the end of the season but Hulu does things a little differently than Netflix in regards to their original programming. So I decided that I will take a look at the sets of episodes instead of doing a full-on review at the end of the season. I will admit that I have never read the Runaways comic, although I do know some of the characters do to their interactions in the Marvel Universe with the books that I do follow. This show is interesting because one of the characters is an actual mutant in the comics and while the…

Movie Review - Justice League (Spoiler free)

Synopsis (from IMDB): Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman's selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes-Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, and the Flash-it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

DC and WB that was pretty cool. Justice League was a lot of fun and for the most part, I enjoyed the film. There was a lot to like in my opinion in this movie. I thought that the cast was great and that between the heroes, the chemistry worked. One of my main concerns with this film was how were they going to introduce the characters that we haven't seen as of yet in their universe and how was it going to all work. Here I think they did a good e…

Nintendo Direct - Xenoblade Chronicles 2

Well, this direct was short, sweet, and to the point. Clocking in at a little over fifteen minutes, this presentation gave people a small look at Xenoblade Chronicles 2 that will be releasing very soon. If you are a fan of the Xenoblade series you will be happy to know that the series staples are still in place. There are still collectibles, heart-to-hearts, and affinity charts in the game. What I liked about the presentation was the explanation into the combat system. This game looks to have an interesting system to learn and it looks to be one that may take a little while to master. Good thing the Xenoblade series has lots of enemies to practice on. Once again you will be fighting wildlife and other creatures during your travels in the world of Alrest. Story-wise I think people who had an issue with Xenoblade Chronicles X will be happy about this one. The game is now available for pre-order and there is a season pass that is available if you choose to purchase that as well. There i…

First Impressions - Super Mario Odyssey

Available on the Nintendo Switch

Thoughts on the Game So Far
I'm going to be completely honest with you here, I am not the biggest Mario fan. When it comes to Nintendo characters my favorite character/series in Link and the Legend of Zelda. That's not to say that the Mario games aren't awesome but just to let you know a little about me. After playing about half of the latest in Mario adventure this game is probably going to go down as a surefire classic and probably the best if not one of the best in the Mario series. Bowser is back to his old tricks except this time not only has he kidnapped Princess Peach he's actually forcing her to marry him. Yeah, I know certain people who shall not be named are going to cry foul over that and they have that right. I think the story is not to be taken seriously in any form but that's just me. Visually, the game is just plain gorgeous. Every environment and area I have been to is unique and just pops with personality. There are …

Movie Review - Thor Ragnorok

Synopsis (from IMDB): Imprisoned, the mighty Thor finds himself in a lethal gladiatorial contest against the Hulk, his former ally. Thor must fight for survival and race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela from destroying his home and the Asgardian Civilization.

Where to begin. Just so you know this is a spoiler-free review. By now you have probably heard that this movie is hilarious. I have to say that it is and I, for one, am glad that they went that route and not take this too seriously. To be honest, Marvel has tried serious Thor and it just didn't work. This movie reminded me of Guardians of the Galaxy, in that it's a fun movie and the chemistry between the characters really work in this movie. I liked all of the actors in this movie even some of the cameos which were awesome if you caught them. I even liked Cate Blanchett as Hela. Personally, I think she is one of the better villains in the MCU so far. Now that I think about it Loki and Hela are my favorite vil…

TV Review - Stranger Things Season 2 (don't worry its spoiler free)

Available on NetFlix

Thoughts on Season 2
The season takes place one year after the events of season 1, so yes you need to watch season 1 if you haven't yet. There is a lot to like about the season as the show picks up where they left off and in my honest opinion, ups the stakes and never look back. This season there are nine episodes instead of eight and nothing feels like a filler episode. The writing is solid and the characters that you know and love are all there doing their thing. The new additions to the cast this season do a great job as well and the chemistry between the kids is fantastic. I'm calling it now Noah Schnapp, who plays Will, deserves an Emmy for his performance this season. That boy was putting in some serious work. Not to say that everyone else sucked, its just he stood out in my opinion. David Harbour also was a stand out to me in the season especially toward the latter half of the season. His character of Hopper had a lot of character growth and it worke…
