Series Review - Voltron Legendary Defender Season 2

Available on Netflix

Synopsis (From IMDB): Four Earth teens - Keith, Lance, Hunk, Pidge and, their leader, Shiro - who become the last line of defense for the galaxy in an intergalactic battle against the evil alien force led by King Zarkon.

Season 2 picks exactly where Season 1 ended, with the paladins and their lions all be scattered to unknown locations. Much of this season deals with the resistance that is forming within the Galra empire and the paladins continuing to form bonds with their lions. The quality of the animation does not drop in the season and neither does the story. There is still so much to like here with this show. Personally, I found the show to be better balanced this season than I did in the first season. Also, I thought the action sequences were better as well. This series has made it a point to get to know the characters outside of the lions and this season was no exception. I liked the time they spent with Keith this season as he is my favorite paladin from the original series and this one as well. There is a lot of foreshadowing of something happening that was talked about in the first episode this season. I don't want to spoil anything so I won't say anything more but I do like where this series will be going in the future. I will say this that the fight in the last episode of the season is worth the price of admission. It is highly enjoyable and I hope that future seasons can match that level of intensity in a season finale.

There are a couple of things that I didn't like with the season. The same as with the first season, the Galra empire isn't fleshed out enough. We don't know much about Zarkon, outside of what we already know from the previous season. We know he has a hard on for the Black Lion and that he was the original paladin but other than that we know little to nothing. Haggar, we do find out a little more about but that in itself was all to brief. It would be nice if in future seasons they can dedicate at least a couple of episodes to what made Zarkon turn on the Alteans.

For Parents
Hey, if you liked Season 1 then it is more of the same. Every episode is about 23 minutes and they are well done. It's a nice mix of action, adventure, and comedy. It is also a well-written show that can be enjoyed by everyone.

Final Thoughts
Just like Season 1, you should really be WATCHING THIS. It is a really good show and I personally am looking forward to where they go next. There is a reveal at the end of this season of a character that I am looking forward to seeing their particular take on. Have you seen Season 2? What are your thoughts? Let me know in the comments below.
