Thoughts on the Switch Presentation Part 2: The Games
After rewatching the Switch presentation and a lot of the Treehouse Live event I would like to give my thoughts on the games that caught my eye. Overall, I think what Nintendo has come out of the gates saying is that we're still here and we're still giving unique experiences. The games they showed off are a mix of what could be considered casual and what is considered core gaming experiences. I won't be going through every game that they showed but I will leave a link to the Presentation as well as the Treehouse Live event so that you can take a look at what will be coming to the Switch.
This game looks like a lot of fun. When I saw the trailer for it I thought it mixed Wii Sports Boxing with Ready 2 Rumble boxing extremely well. The game uses the Joy Cons in the same way you would have used the Wii Mote and Chuck. The game looks like it will be a lot of fun, especially with friends. They showed some of the character variety and I am digging the variety. Hopefully, we'll see more as I know I can't be the only one interested in this title.
Duel Wielding NUFF SAID!!!!
Super Mario Odyssey
Super Mario Galaxy meets Grand Theft Auto meets Dr. NO. Yeah people, this game from a visual standpoint looks amazing and it looks like there may be an actual story to this one like it was in the original Super Mario Galaxy. A coworker of mine recently stated that he got a Super Mario 64 vibe from the game and I can certainly see it myself. Now if you're wondering about the Dr. No reference Bowser throwing his hat. I guess the hat is going to be one of the new power-ups for the game. I am wondering what other surprises Nintendo has in store. Currently, the game has a Holiday 2017 tentative release date. I'm sure we'll see more at this year's e3.
Fire Emblem Warriors
Much like Hyrule Warriors in 2014, KoeiTecmo is mixing another Nintendo Franchise with their Warriors line. I think that this is a good fit. Admittedly I am not the biggest Fire Emblem fan but I will am definitely interested in this as I am a fan of the Dynasty Warriors series and they did such an excellent job on Hyrule Warriors that I am all in for this one as well. The video was just a tease but it's safe to assume that Chrom is in the game.
It seems like Bethesda did make Skyrim for the Switch after all. This is going to be an interesting one for several reasons. One of which I think the ability to play this game on the go is going to be appealing for a lot of gamers. The Elder Scrolls franchise has a lot of fans worldwide and I honestly thought that this game would never see the light of day on at Nintendo console. Sometimes it's good to be wrong.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Looking forward to this one I have become a fan of this series in recent years. Unlike some gamers I think Xenoblade Chronicles X is a lot of fun, however, I can admit that there were issues with the story. This game looks like it will be more in line with Xenoblade Chronicles that was on the Wii. Also, I am digging the cel-shaded art style of the presentation trailer and I hope they keep it. I honestly think that fantasy games like this one can stand to change up the art style every now and then, it helps to keep things fresh in my opinion.
No More Heroes
Now there was no video for this one but I had to add it. The return of Travis Touchdown to the world of video games is worth it. Suda 51 himself came on stage to give everyone the news and its coming to the Switch. Now we can get Travis in the next Super Smash Bros., we got Bayonetta so we can get Travis too.
The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild
Saving the best for last. I don't really need to explain but after the trailer, they showed I am impatiently excited for this game. If you follow this blog then you know how much of a Zelda fanboy I am and this just looks EPIC. Yes, I preordered the special edition (the master edition wasn't available for preorder or I would have gotten that one). Check out the trailer below and let me know what you think.
Like I said earlier I haven't made my way all the way through the Treehouse Live presentation yet. There are some games that are on my radar. For instance, the new Fast Racing game as well as Ultra Street Fighter 2 with Violent Ken and Evil Ryu. I am hoping that Nintendo has a great year as I am looking forward to the Switch and the possibilities that this system holds. Are you excited for the Switch? What games are you planning to pick up at launch? Let me know in the comments below.
