Nintendo's Nindies Direct Thoughts

I have to say I really do like these short and to the point directs. The direct lasts about 18 minutes and we get a lot of information about upcoming games in that time frame. The games that were shown will all be coming at some point this year. There were even reveals of some coming in the launch window of the Switch, which is always welcome news. For this post, I just want to go over the ones that caught my eye and that I will be looking to pick up.
Yooka-LayLee: You have to admit that when it was canceled from the Wii U that it was coming to the Switch. The great thing about this is that now it's coming with multiplayer. Fans of games like Banjo-Kazooie are happy that this title is coming to the console.Dandara: This game has an interesting vibe to it that has me intrigued. They only showed what would amount to a teaser trailer but I am looking forward to this one. Also, my interest has nothing to do with the fact that the heroine looks like Pam Grier circa Foxy Brown.Blaster M…

Nintendo Switch - What I'm Looking Forward To

Nintendo's newest console is set to release this coming Friday, March 3rd. While there are those with varying degrees of emotion toward the release I just wanted to give my thoughts on what I am looking forward to from Nintendo's latest console. Just so you know I am not trying to sway anyone, I hope that those who are reading this can make their own decision in regards to the Switch. If you are on the fence about the system do your own research that will help you make the best decision. Now that that's out of the way let's get to it shall we.

Portability: One of the things that had my interest piqued from the initial reveal was the fact that gamers would be able to take their game anywhere. It's going to be great to take your game with you when you are out and resume the game when you get back to your TV. The Games: For me personally, Nintendo is home to my favorite gaming franchises. From the Legend of Zelda to Metroid and Kid Icarus, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, and …

Series Review - Cyborg 009 Call Of Justice

Available on Netflix

Synopsis: After defeating Black Ghost and various threats around the world. The 00 Cyborgs days of peace come to an end when they encounter a new threat to humanity. Will they join the fight or will they stay hidden in the shadows?

Cyborg 009 Call to Justice is a 12 episode anime from Production I.G. and Toho Animation Studios. This anime comes on the 50th anniversary of the original manga. There was a lot I liked about this particular iteration of the anime, as it has had a number of reimaginings over the years. I liked how every member of the 00 team got an episode to shine and show what made them special and an important part of the show. Too many times in other shows, most characters don't get a chance to show what makes them integral to the team but this one got it right. Do you have to know a lot about the manga and preceding animes? Not really. The first two episodes do a good job, in my opinion, of catching everyone up to speed. They even go as far as p…

Thoughts on RWBY Volume 4

Available on Crunchyroll and YouTube

Volume 4
The season picks up months after the fall of Beacon. Ruby has teamed up with the remaining members of Team JNPR as they make the journey to Mistral. After the end of volume 3, it was nice to see Ruby and the members of Team JNPR together. You get the idea that they needed one another after everything that happened at Beacon. That is one of the great things about this particular volume, in my opinion, it showed that the characters had all matured in different ways. Some characters were still working through some things while others were hopeful that everything will work out. This volume dealt with a lot of character development and the differing journeys for the members of Team RWBY. I have said this in previous reviews of the different volumes and I will say it again; every volume the graphics, CG, and general artwork gets better and better. There are even some new Grimm designs that look pretty good as well. The action is still animated we…

Movie Review - Justice League Dark

Synopsis: Batman forms a new team of dark arts specialists that is led by John Constantine. The team must unravel the mystery of a supernatural plague and contend with the rising, powerful villainous forces behind the siege.

I have to ask this question off the rip but why is this movie Rated R? I mean there is nothing in here that would warrant this movie being R unless I missed something. That being said I did enjoy the movie. Like the majority of the DC animated features, there is a lot to like here. The art style looks great and the animation is fluid. What separates this one from their other releases is the cast. Matt Ryan voices Constantine and can we just get him to play it forever. He is just that good. If you don't know who that is, he is the actor that was playing the character in the short-lived live-action TV series. The voice acting is very good and the cast does a good job with the story. One of my favorite characters in the movie was Zatanna. Her character was done v…

Movie Review - John Wick 2

Synopsis (from IMDB): After returning to the criminal underworld to repay a debt, Wick discovers there is a large bounty on his life.

So he found his car, pretty much destroys his car, and that's the opening credits peeps. The sequel follows Wick as he is forced to repay a debt. There is a lot to like about this movie as it picks up right where the first one leaves off. Everything you liked about the original is here. The look and the feel remain intact and the action sequences are a sight to see. It is also nice to see that Wick isn't immortal. They show him get hurt a lot in this movie and through sheer will and determination he keeps going. The film does a great job of showing why everybody is pretty much in fear of him and don't want to be on his bad side. I have to give it to the filmmakers they do a good job of ramping the action sequences up so that the last sequence is topped by what they pull off next. The acting is about the same from the original and that's …

First Impressions - Fire Emblem Heroes

Available on iOS and Android

Initial Thoughts
Let me start by saying I don't normally game on my phone or tablet outside of games like Bejeweled and Solitaire. It's also important to note that while I am not the biggest fan of the Fire Emblem series I do know a little about them due to their inclusion in the Smash Bros series and Google Search. I have to give it to Nintendo and Intelligent Systems, I am impressed with what they have done. The game's story is simple enough, the Emblian Empire is subjugating various worlds (i.e. games in the Fire Emblem series) in a bid to conquer the world. You are known as a summoner and can summon various heroes of the Fire Emblem universe to aid you and the kingdom of Askr in putting a stop to the Emblian Empire.  For a mobile game, there is a lot of information in the game and it would be very time consuming to go over it here. I will put the Direct that was done for it on this post as it does a pretty good job of being a primer for the …

Movie Review - The Lego Batman Movie

Synopsis (IMDB): In this spin-off to The Lego Movie, if Batman wants to save Gotham City from the Joker's hostile takeover then he may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others, and maybe learn to lighten up.

Not going to lie but I love the Lego movies. This one, however, I feel is the best one out of all of them. The filmmakers do a great job of adding a lot of Batman lore into this movie and make it all make sense as well. They also show how much of a douche Batman really is, it's pretty much an extension of the character from the Lego Movie. Just like that movie, everything is created with Lego style playsets. It's really cool to see and gives the movie a unique feel especially seeing Gotham City reimagined in that way. The cast here is great as there were a lot of people that I could recognize and some that I didn't until I saw the credits. There are a lot of fourth wall breaks in this movie and they start at the opening credits. It sets the to…

What's On My Radar 2017 Pt. 3

2017 Games - Microsoft Edition

What's up peeps. So we have come to the XBONE and what I am looking forward to on this console for the first half of the year.  I usually try to go with third party titles on my XBox because I tend to go digital on those releases. This year there are a few titles that have caught my eye and I am really looking forward to cracking open these titles when I have a chance to get to them. So now without further ado let's take a look at what I am looking forward to on the ONE.

South Park The Fractured But Whole
Can we agree that the South Park games are usually awesome. This game was originally supposed to release in December but was pushed back to March. The trailer for the game seems to be taking shots at both Marvel and DC's cinematic universes and just judging by the trailer, it looks like the references will be in full force. Check it out and let me know if this one is on your pickup list.

Ghost Recon Wildlands
I am not going to lie. At first, I…

First Impressions - Tales of Berseria

Available on PS4 and PC; version played PS4

The Game
Tales of Berseria is the latest entry in the Tales of series and fifteen hours in I can honestly say that this is a different type of Tales game. The game revolves around Velvet Crowe and her quest to get revenge on the man who destroyed her world. To be honest, this isn't the first game in the Tales series to have a dark character, as a matter of fact, the majority of Tales games I have played have had at least one or two characters with shady or questionable morals. This is, however, the first Tales game in my memory where the lead character is so singularly focused on revenge that she openly uses and manipulates others to get to her goal. With that being said the game still feels like a Tales game. If you are new to Tales games here's a little bit of a primer for you. The Tales series of games are action RPG focused games where combat is fast. There are always little tweaks to the combat system to make each entry feel fres…
