Movie Review - The Lego Batman Movie
Synopsis (IMDB): In this spin-off to The Lego Movie, if Batman wants to save Gotham City from the Joker's hostile takeover then he may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others, and maybe learn to lighten up.
Not going to lie but I love the Lego movies. This one, however, I feel is the best one out of all of them. The filmmakers do a great job of adding a lot of Batman lore into this movie and make it all make sense as well. They also show how much of a douche Batman really is, it's pretty much an extension of the character from the Lego Movie. Just like that movie, everything is created with Lego style playsets. It's really cool to see and gives the movie a unique feel especially seeing Gotham City reimagined in that way. The cast here is great as there were a lot of people that I could recognize and some that I didn't until I saw the credits. There are a lot of fourth wall breaks in this movie and they start at the opening credits. It sets the tone and you are either with it or you're not. Will Arnett does a great job of making Batman unlikable and then kinda sorta likable by the end of the movie. You'll see what I mean when you see how he treats Joker. What you saw in the trailer wasn't half as bad as what does in the movie. The soundtrack to the movie is also pretty good. The animation is very well done. To me, the action sequences were the highlight of the animation. If there was anything bad about the movie is that a few of the jokes did seem to fall flat. Anything else to me, in all honesty, would be nitpicking. The movie has way to much fun and in my opinion, some of the best homages to the Batman character that I have seen. I will say this, however, if you are one of those Batman fans that think Batman is without fault then you probably won't like this movie as they bring his faults to the forefront often.
The movie is rated PG. It is just like the Lego Movie so there really isn't any reason why children can't watch it. The theater I was in was packed with kids and they were loving every minute. The movie runs for about an hour and forty minutes and is well paced. I also believe that this is a movie that adults can enjoy as well.
This is a FULL PRICE/BLU-RAY pick up for me. I loved everything about this movie. To me, it's one of my favorite Batman movies. Have you seen The Lego Batman movie? What did you think about it? Let me know in the comments below and thanks for reading.
