Impressions - Splatoon 2 Global TestFire

Splatoon 2 will be available on Nintendo Switch

Initial Thoughts - Da Good
Just like the original's Global TestFire way back in 2015, Nintendo decided to let Switch owners demo Splatoon 2 this past weekend. I was able to get a couple of times in and the videos are available on my YouTube channel if you wish to few them. The game plays a lot like the original with a few deviations, which are to be expected as it is on a new system. The motion controls are still there but there is an option to turn them off which I guess will be there when the game releases later this year.  I played via the Pro Controller and found it to be very responsive. The controls were tight and the action was smooth. From a gameplay standpoint, the demo was really good. The character models retained their sense of style and charm. Everything was pre-set and you couldn't customize yourself as each demo session was only an hour long and at a specific time. There were two stages that were used for the demo, …

Movie Review - Power Rangers (that was not what I expected)

Synopsis (IMDB): A group of high school kids, infused with superpowers, harness their abilities in order to save the world.

To borrow a phrase from former President Obama, "Uh, let me be clear", my expectations for this movie were not high going into this. As a matter of fact, the only reason I went to see this in the theater was because I thought it was going to be horrible. I was pleasantly surprised, for the most part. As you know this movie is based on the insanely popular series that began in the 90's and is still going today. This particular movie is based on the original five rangers; Jason, Trini, Kimberly, Zack, and Billy. One of the highlights of the film to me were the actors themselves. They did a very good job showing their comradery and especially the bond between Jason and Billy. The movie does a good job of showing that each of them has their own issues but they do overcome them and you can see them start to become friends. Elizabeth Banks and Bryan Crans…

Series Review - Marvel's Iron Fist Season 1

Available on Netflix

Synopsis (IMDB): Danny Rand returns to New York City after being missing for years, trying to reconnect with his past and his families legacy. He fights against the criminal element corrupting his world around him with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.

To say that in the last few weeks this show has been hit with heavy negativity is an understatement. After watching the entire season I have found that while there are some things that I am left scratching my head at on the why with certain things in this season; it is nowhere near what paid critics have complained about. I enjoyed the season and the execution of what they were trying to do in this season. Personally, I think that the fighting sequences in here are done very well. Fighting is a big part of this show and I was a little worried that it wouldn't look good, especially compared to how good the fight sequences in Daredevil have been handled. …

First Impressions - FAST RMX

Available on Nintendo Switch

The Game
If you miss the futuristic racers of the past then this game might just be up your ally. The FAST series is one of those game series that can be really fun, frustrating and satisfying all at the same time. If you played FAST Racing NEO on the Wii U, then you know how this game plays and the types of vehicles involved. Going fast in this game is an understatement. There is a large assortment of tracks that in all honesty can take a few times to get the used to. There are also different game modes to look forward to as well. There is also couch as well as online multiplayer. You have probably heard many a reviewer on YouTube or review site claim that this game can scratch that F-Zero itch and I agree with them. This is a challenging racer that looks great and sounds awesome.

The GamePlay
It's a racing game and there really isn't much more to it than that. With that being said, there is some strategy to be had in this game. To say that the game…

First Impressions - RWBY Grimm Eclipse

Available on XBONE, PS4, and PC; version played XBONE

The Game
Based on the RWBY animated series from Rooster Teeth, this game follows Teams RWBY and JNPR (JNPR being available only through DLC) as they try to get to the bottom of strange happenings around the Emerald Forest. The game takes place between Volumes 2 and 3 of the series and is a 4 player hack-n-slash game. For fans of the series, everything that you love is there. Story wise I think the game works as it does feel like an extension of the series. The characters feel unique and retain their characteristics from the series. Honestly, I think this will be fun for fans of the show and they will be able to get the most out of the game.

The GamePlay
It is a hack-n-slash in the vein of the old Gauntlet series. That being said it suffers from some of the problems that all hack-n-slash games suffer from. The game does get repetitive and while there are different difficulty modes to play the game on there is no real strategy to defea…

First Impressions - The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild

Available on Wii U and Switch, version played Switch

20 hours in and One Dungeon Down
It's not many times that I can say this and it applies but I will this time. Everything you have heard about this game is true. I will admit that I was a little worried at first, especially with the numerous delays but this game has been well worth the wait. Everything that I have encountered in this game so far; from the combat and world design, to even the puzzles have been awesome. This is the biggest Zelda game I have played both figuratively and literally. The map is humongous and there are many places to visit and characters to interact with in the game.

The game is set sometime in Hyrule, though there is no clear indication or guess as to when or where this game could possibly sit in the timeline. The game opens with Link awakening to the sound of a voice telling him to open your eyes. It is at this point that you are greeted with the introductory portion of the game. The story takes place …

Logan Review (About DAMN time)

Synopsis (from Twentieth Century Fox): In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan's attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are upended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.

This movie has been billed as Hugh Jackman's last time portraying one of Marvel's most famous and iconic heroes. If this is indeed his last time it was a great sendoff and one that was highly enjoyable in my honest opinion. From the very beginning of the movie, you can tell that this particular outing has a very different feel and tone than anything in the X-Men film universe. Most comic fans will tell you that if there is one thing lacking from these movies it is the lack of showing what made mutants feared. This movie shows you why in great detail. The "R" rating is needed for the type of story that is being told. Visually the movie looks great and the story, for the most part, is tight. The vi…
