A Gamer's Thoughts - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Available on the Nintendo Switch

The Game
Let me go on and get this out of the way now. Yes, I bought this game. Yes, I bought it because of Battle Mode. Now that that's out of the way let's get into this shall we. This is a basically a "Definitive" edition of the Wii U game. The game comes with all the DLC and characters that were in that game along with the revamped Battle Mode. Also joining the festivities this time around is Inkling Boy and Girl from Splatoon complete with their own track (in Battle Mode). Graphically, I won't lie that I couldn't really tell a difference until I got to Bowser's Castle. That's when I noticed that the graphics were better and visually everything looked sharper and more vibrant. As far as the gameplay is concerned it is the same as it was on the Wii U. I have heard rumors that the whole "fire hopping" glitch has been fixed. I'm sure some people will take issue with that for some reason or another. The music is still great and the evil Luigi animation is still there as I have been on the receiving end of his malice at least twice.

Switch vs Wii U
If you did not get a Wii U but purchased a Switch this game is a great edition. What makes this game a good purchase, in my opinion, is the portability of the Switch. The ability to play anywhere is a huge plus in my book. Also, a true Battle Mode with multiple different types of play cemented the purchase (at least for me). Add to the mix the ease of starting up a multiplayer game and the different control options makes a compelling case for double dipping this particular game. Saying that if you have the Wii U game you still have a quality game. Nintendo is keeping the servers up for the Wii U so you really don't have to get the game unless you want the additions that they added for the Switch. It all comes down to preference really. Lastly, if you do get the Switch version even though all the characters and tracks are unlocked from the start the karts, wheels, and gliders are not. Gotta get those coins and unlock them.

Final Thoughts
Honestly, it comes down to preference. If you own the Wii U version it is still a fun game and all of the features and characters are there minus Inkling Boy and Girl and the Battle Mode. In my opinion, the game is still a great one for the gaming library. The game still has amiibo support so you can get the suits that were available with the Wii U version as well. Have you picked up the game? What do you think? Let me know in the comments below.
