Movie Review - Justice League (Spoiler free)
Synopsis (from IMDB): Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman's selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes-Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, and the Flash-it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
DC and WB that was pretty cool. Justice League was a lot of fun and for the most part, I enjoyed the film. There was a lot to like in my opinion in this movie. I thought that the cast was great and that between the heroes, the chemistry worked. One of my main concerns with this film was how were they going to introduce the characters that we haven't seen as of yet in their universe and how was it going to all work. Here I think they did a good enough job of piquing interest for the characters of Aquaman, Cyborg, and the Flash that I would want to know more about them in their own movies. Granted we don't get full origins but we do get to learn a little about them and their interactions with each other are very good. As far as the action is concerned, its Zack Synder this is what the man does best. The action sequences are all shot well and with the exception of one scene, it's easy to tell what's going on in those sequences. The soundtrack is pretty good. If you pay attention you will hear the 1989 Batman movie theme as well as the Batman the animated series theme and the Superman themes as well. I thought those were nice touches especially the parts of the movie where they were played. The story itself was okay with a lot of the conflict being a direct result of what happened in Batman vs Superman. There is one more thing I want to mention that I liked and that was Joss Whedon's contributions to the movie. There is some general laugh out loud moments in the film and there are also moments that feel very much like a Whedon film. I think those moments help to make the film fun.
My one main gripe with this film is the villain, Steppenwolf. To be honest, he just feels weak and it doesn't help that I know him from the comics and that I have read and seen (the animated series) Wonder Woman wreck him on multiple occasions and by herself. I understand the deal with the mother boxes but I thought that they were going to do something else with it but apparently, that is going to be shelved for the moment. The parademons themselves were okay and could be seen as menacing especially when it comes to the numbers game but much like the Chitauri in the Avengers movie, they were pretty much cannon fodder for the heroes. Also, I wasn't really feeling the design of Steppenwolf, in my opinion, they should have cast a person instead of making him fully CG. The one action scene I found a little hard to follow was the Atlantis scene. It was made to look like the fight was taking place underwater and it was a cool concept but I found it dark and hard to tell what was happening. Here's hoping the Aquaman movie has a way of making this fights easier to see.
The movie is rated PG-13 and is your basic superhero movie with the usual accompanying elements. This movie is under two hours and is paced well. The movie never felt like it dragged at any point. In my opinion, its a step up from Batman vs Superman in every way.
This movie is getting a MATINEE from me. I had a lot of fun and one of the things I was worried about the movie addressed and fixed it in the movie. Here's hoping that DC continues to put out great material. Have you seen Justice League yet? Let me know what you thought about it in the comments and as always thanks for reading.
