First Impressions - Battle Chef Brigade

Available on Nintendo Switch and Steam for $19.99

My Initial Thoughts
I have to say that this game is a pleasant surprise. This game mixes side-scrolling action adventure with puzzle mechanics to make a unique and I have to say fun experience. The game is broken up into six chapters and follows the character of Mina as she leaves (runs away from) her family-owned restaurant to go to the capital and join the Brigade. The first thing you notice about this game is the art style. I love the hand-drawn anime style art that this game utilizes. To me, it makes the world feel more alive and vibrant. The cast of characters is pretty good too. Each of the main characters of the story has their own attributes and cooking styles. No two dishes are prepared the same (at least I did not see any in my playthrough), the way they play is also unique to each other. The characters have their own specialty dishes and to win you have to get the proper ingredients and prepare a meal the judges will love. Pa…

First Impressions - Guns, Gore, & Cannoli

Available on Switch, XBONE, PS4, and STEAM; version played Switch

Initial Impressions
Guns, Gore, & Cannoli is a 2D side-scrolling shooter set in the fictional city of Thugtown in the roaring 20's. You play as mob enforcer Vinnie Cannoli who has been sent by the head of the family to pick up Frankie in Thugtown. The only problem is Thugtown is currently overrun by zombies, which turns out really isn't that much of a problem for a wise guy. The first thing you will notice about this game is the art style. It works because the game is way over the top and the art style makes it even better. The game has full voice acting in it and if you have ever watched any old-school gangster movies you will recognize some of the lines that Vinnie says in game. Yes, the dialogue is cheesy but it works for the game because of the setting and for some reason, I envision this is how a mob enforcer would act in a zombie outbreak. The game is a throwback to the arcade shooter as you can have up…

Film Review - Godzilla Monster Planet Pt. 1

Available on NetFlix

Synopsis (from IMDB):  Years into the future and the human race has been defeated several times by the new ruling force of the planet: "Kaijus". And the ruler of that force is Godzilla, King of the Monsters. Humanity is in such defeat, plans to leave the planet have been made, and several people have been chosen to look at a new planet to see if it is inhabitable. Realizing it is not though, the human race resorts to plan B: to defeat Godzilla and take back their planet.

This movie plays out like a straight up revenge flick and you know what there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. The movie does a good job with the setup of what happened to the world and why the population left earth. From a story standpoint, the movie does a great job of showing the desperation of the characters. Showing how some characters went crazy from being in space too long and how others had given up hope. I think that one of the best aspects of this movie is that in and o…

Black Lightning 1st Episode Thoughts

Tuesdays at 9pm on the CW

I watched the first episode of Black Lightning and I just wanted to give a few of my thoughts on it after one episode. I still plan on doing a full review once the season is done and don't worry this will be spoiler free. I will admit that I don't know much about the character as I am mostly a Marvel comics guy. That being said I have to say that I am feeling this show much like I did with the Luke Cage show on Netflix. I think that Cress Williams does an excellent job as Jefferson Pierce. I like that the show starts you off with him already being retired and having left the superhero life behind for the sake of his family. It's not that he doesn't want his powers on he feels like he's cursed, he just wants his family back. One of the themes of the episode and of the show is that every choice has a consequence. You see it constantly throughout the episode whether it is with his daughters or with him. Some people may not like this but this …

And Nintendo Decided to Drop This

So earlier today Nintendo decided to make an announcement about a new way to play. They introduced Nintendo Labo. Which, in all honesty, looks like a DIY VR Kit that is usually sold at Hobby shops. Now I am not going to lie after watching the first look video a couple of the games actually piqued my interest. Check out the video and let me know your thoughts, as always thanks for reading.

Nintendo Mini Direct for 01.11.18

So much for my vacation for my blog. What's up peeps. Nintendo dropped a mini direct this morning and it had some pretty good announcements in it. The direct itself is about 15 minutes so it's not too long and they go in a rapid-fire style. If you want to watch it will be linked below. Here's my take on the proceedings.

There were a few games that truly surprised me in this morning's direct. Mario Tennis Aces are just like the name implies a Mario tennis game this one actually has a story mode in it and from the trailer the game looks good. The World Ends With You is a game originally released on the DS back in 2008 and I will be honest I never got a chance to play it so I will more than likely be picking up this version at some point but it looks pretty good. SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy, now this one caught me by surprise as this is a fighting game but with the lovely ladies of SNK. I would like to see more gameplay of this game as it has piqued my interest…
