Film Review - Batman Ninja

Available on Digital 04/24/18 on Blu Ray 05/08/18

Synopsis (from IMDB):  Batman Ninja takes a journey across the ages as Gorilla Grodd's time displacement machine transports many of Batman's worst enemies to feudal Japan - along with the Dark Knight and a few of his allies. The villains take over the forms of feudal lords that rule the divided land, with the Joker taking the lead among the warring factions. As his traditional high-tech weaponry is exhausted almost immediately, Batman must rely on his intellect and his allies - including Catwoman and the extended Bat-family - to restore order to the land, and return to present-day Gotham City.

Okay, so that is what a stylized anime Batman movie looks like, not bad DC not bad. I have to say from a visual standpoint the movie looks amazing. The character designs are done very well also and the action is fluid and works well with the visuals.  From a story standpoint, it is completely ridiculous but it works as it feels very much like an anime. The basic gist is that one night Batman and his Bat-family are staking out Arkham Asylum where Gorilla Grodd meets with some of Gotham's more notable villains to unveil his latest invention. His invention being a time machine, of course, Batman tries to stop him and inadvertently triggers the device and boom we're in feudal Japan and the Warring States period. There are points in the film where the art style changes and it looks great, one sequence, in particular, was very well done. To me its a fun movie with a lot of great art. The final fight between Batman and Joker looks great and how it is animated is amazing. It is a very well animated fight.

As far as things that I didn't like with the film there honestly wasn't much that I didn't like but there were a few things that I found odd. For example, some of the character designs were just weird even for that era. I also think that we didn't get to spend enough time with any of the other villains that were in the movie. It honestly feels like they were just there for something that happens in the climactic fight sequence. Other than that there were only nitpicks and let's be real nitpicking really isn't that serious.

For Parents
The movie is rated PG-13. There is a little bit of language but it is easily missed. There is a lot of action in the movie but no real gore, there is a little bit of blood.  There movie clocks in at about an hour and twenty-five minutes and is well paced.

Final Thoughts
I give this movie a FULL PRICE. Now I will admit that I am a fan of anime but I like the approach that the filmmakers took with this and for the most part I think that it works. The artwork is incredible and the action sequences are amazing. The story is a little ridiculous but I didn't mind it and I thought that at times it worked. If you are a fan of anime I think you will enjoy this film, however if you are not I don't think you will like it much less enjoy it. Have you seen the film? What do you think about it? Leave a comment and as always thanks for watching.
