First Impressions - Blazblue Cross Tag Battle

Available on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam

As the name implies Blazblue Cross Tag Battle, is tag based fighter from Arc Systems Works and Bandai Namco. It's a tag team fighter in the same vein as Dragonball FighterZ just instead of 3 vs 3 it's 2 vs 2. As a matter of fact, there are a lot of similarities between the two games. Both have simplified commands and both are easy to pick up challenging to master. As for the variety of characters, it appears to be a little heavy on the BlazBlue side and I am not that familiar with In-Birth. That being said though, I like the characters that are assembled for the game. While the game does use a lobby style format in order to access the menus I think it is done pretty good. Everything is easy to get to and easy to find. There is plenty to do in the game. From a visual standpoint, I like it as they use a similar format to FighterZ but one that I think is far more accessible with how easy it is to find everything. There is a DLC pack for this game that comes at the standard price for a season pass and offers more characters to be playable. Some of these characters show up in the games Story Mode.

On The Subject of Story Mode
SEGUE!!!So Arc Systems Works put out a statement before the game released asking gamers not to stream the story. Understandable, but to me, there is nothing in the mode that is very spoilerish. The story mode is broken up into four sections (one for each title represented in this game). Each section has 8 chapters in which the character has to fight various opponents until they reach the goal. It really is that standard for a story mode. The story mode can be fun as some of the interactions are really funny but for the most part, it's pretty convoluted. Also, if it weren't for the jokes the story mode would be a little tedious as well. Each chapter only contains one fight and a lot of exposition. I think that the mode is okay. I still think FighterZ has a better story but then again I am DragonBall fan so I am a little biased.

Final Impressions
Going online is very easy and the lobby is easy to find a match. I have not experienced any lag as of this writing. Every time I play the experience is smooth and fluid. Overall, I think this game is a lot of fun. If you are a fan of tag battle games I think you will enjoy this one. Please check out the YouTube channel for some gameplay. Have you tried out BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle yet? Let me know what you think in the comments and as always thanks for watching.
